Cookie Policy

Last updated: 1 October 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how Jersey Web uses cookies and similar technologies on jerseyweb.je (the “Site”). It should be read alongside our Terms of Service.

We use cookies in line with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the UK GDPR. This means we only set non-essential cookies (such as analytics) with your consent.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help the site work properly, keep it secure, and, with your consent, help us understand how the Site is used. We use the term “cookies” to include similar technologies such as pixels and local storage.

The cookies we use

1. Strictly necessary cookies (no consent required)

These are essential for the Site to load securely and work properly. They’re set by Cloudflare, which provides our website hosting, security, and performance. They don’t identify you personally or track you for marketing.

Cookie Provider Purpose Typical expiry
__cf_bm Cloudflare Tells human visitors apart from automated bots to protect the Site ~30 minutes
cf_clearance Cloudflare Remembers that you’ve passed a security check (only set if a challenge is shown) Up to 1 year
__cf_bm Vimeo (only on our video pages) Set by the Vimeo video player through Cloudflare, to tell people apart from bots. We load the player in Vimeo’s “do not track” mode, so Vimeo sets no analytics or advertising cookies ~30 minutes
jerseyweb_cookie_consent Jersey Web Remembers your cookie choices so we don’t ask every visit 12 months

2. Analytics cookies (set only with your consent)

We use Google Analytics to see which pages people find useful, and Microsoft Clarity, which additionally records anonymised session replays and heatmaps of how pages are used. Neither is loaded, and neither sets a cookie, unless you say yes.

If you say no, nothing is requested from Google or Microsoft at all: the scripts are never fetched, so there is nothing to block.

Google Analytics

CookieProviderPurposeTypical expiry
_ga Google Analytics Distinguishes individual visitors 2 years
_ga_<id> Google Analytics Keeps session state for analytics 2 years

Microsoft Clarity

Clarity sets more than most people expect, and one of them is not purely analytics: Microsoft describe MUID as used for advertising as well. It is listed here rather than left out.

CookieProviderPurposeTypical expiry
_clck Microsoft Clarity Keeps a Clarity user ID so repeat visits are recognised 1 year
_clsk Microsoft Clarity Joins the pages you view into a single session recording 1 day
CLID Microsoft (clarity.ms) Records the first time Clarity saw this browser on this site 1 year
ANONCHK Microsoft (c.clarity.ms) Indicates whether MUID is passed on for advertising use 10 minutes
MR Microsoft (c.clarity.ms) Indicates whether the MUID cookie should be refreshed 7 days
MUID Microsoft Identifies a browser across Microsoft sites. Microsoft use it for advertising as well as analytics 1 year
SM Microsoft (c.clarity.ms) Synchronises the MUID identifier across Microsoft domains Session

We do not use advertising or marketing cookies of our own, and we don't sell your data. Your answer to the banner is stored in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie.

Managing your consent

On your first visit you are asked one question, with No thanks and Yes, count it shown as equally weighted buttons. Refusing is exactly as easy as accepting, and nothing loads before you choose. The Site works completely either way.

You can change your answer here at any time:

You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings, although some parts of the Site may not work as well if you block strictly necessary cookies.
