Listed in alphabetical order from details each business publishes itself. A listing isn’t a recommendation, and none of these businesses has paid to be here. Missing a business, or something out of date?
You never need building bye-law permission to paint (opens in a new tab), and painting is usually allowed without planning permission under the General Development Order (opens in a new tab). The main exception is a listed building: painting a part that has never been painted needs permission. If you want to change the colour of a listed building, ask the Government’s historic environment team first.
The Order also limits painting that would change the look of a conservation area, but the Government of Jersey is still working on designating them (opens in a new tab), starting with St Aubin.
Scaffolding on a public road needs a road works permit (opens in a new tab) from the Government or the parish, depending on who owns the road, and in St Helier only approved scaffolding contractors can get one. Ask your decorator who is arranging it.
A home built before 2000 could contain asbestos (opens in a new tab), and textured coatings such as Artex are among the materials it can be found in. Have a textured ceiling or wall checked before anyone sands, scrapes or removes it.
Jersey has no official register of decorators. The Jersey Construction Council takes members from every trade, but membership isn’t a quality check, so look at recent work and ask past customers.
Jersey Trading Standards explains (opens in a new tab) that a quotation is a fixed, legally binding price, while an estimate is a guess. Ask for a written quotation that lists the rooms or walls, the preparation, the paint and how many coats, so you’re comparing like with like. The Supply of Goods and Services (Jersey) Law 2009 (opens in a new tab) requires the work to be done with reasonable care and skill.

If the scaffolding stands on a public road, yes: it needs a road works permit from the Government or the parish. In St Helier, only approved scaffolding contractors can get one.
In a home built before 2000, it could. Textured coatings such as Artex are among the materials that can contain asbestos, so have it checked before anyone sands or removes it.
