How we research and write our guides
Who writes them, where the facts come from, how we keep them up to date, and what to do if you spot a mistake.

Who writes the guides
Jersey Web is run by Josh, our founder, who works as a web designer, developer and SEO. Josh designs, builds and looks after the websites we make, and is responsible for every guide, video and Jargon Buster entry on this site. The guides come from the same work we do for Jersey businesses every week.
Why we write them
The guides are for Jersey business owners who want a straight answer: what a website costs, what the law asks of it, how domains and email work, and how to be found online. They are written to be useful on their own, whether or not you ever work with us. Where we offer a related service we say so at the end, clearly marked.
Where the facts come from
- Official sources first. Rules, fees and processes are checked against the body that sets them, such as gov.je, the JFSC, the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner, the Jersey Charity Commissioner and the Channel Isles domain registry. We link to the source so you can check it yourself.
- Dated. Fees and rules change. Each guide shows the date it was last updated, and figures are stated as they were on that date.
- Our own data, explained. When we publish our own research, such as our study of how Jersey businesses can be contacted online, we publish the method and the limits alongside the findings.
- Opinion marked as opinion. Practical checklists and recommendations are our editorial suggestions. We say so, and we do not claim that following them guarantees rankings, sales or compliance.
Prices
Our own prices are always written as a starting point, because every job is different: builds from £100 and hosting from £20 a month. The full list is on our prices page. Prices for other companies' products are taken from their own published price lists on the date shown.
Legal and regulatory topics
Some guides cover the law, such as data protection, business licences or JFSC rules. They are plain-English summaries, not legal advice, and each one says so. For your own situation, speak to the regulator or a Jersey lawyer.
How we use tools, including AI
We use software, including AI writing and research tools, to help gather sources, draft and check our pages. Tools do not decide what we publish. Facts are checked against the original source before a page goes live, and Josh is responsible for everything on this site.
Independence
- We do not accept payment to appear in, or rank higher in, our guides or our business directory. Directory listings are free.
- We do not use affiliate links.
- Client quotes appear only with the client's permission, and case studies only describe what can be seen on the client's live website.
Keeping guides up to date
We review guides when the rules or prices they describe change, and when readers tell us something is out of date. The updated date on each guide changes when its content changes, not when we simply republish it.
Spotted a mistake?
Please tell us at hello@jerseyweb.je, with the page and what you think is wrong. We check every report against the source and correct the page if we got it wrong.
