A clear credit for every photograph
Photo usage and attribution
Our main collection is original JerseyWeb photography. Published photographs have verified Pexels download links; upcoming uploads remain previews. The separate historical archive uses Creative Commons licences and requires credits to its original photographers.
Original JerseyWeb photographs on Pexels
JerseyWeb owns the original photographs in the main collection. Where a photograph is marked available, download it from its individual Pexels page and follow the Pexels licence. It permits free website use and editing; attribution is appreciated but optional. Restrictions include implying endorsement, certain standalone sales and redistribution on other stock or wallpaper platforms. Read the full licence for your intended use.
We host resized previews to make the collection fast and useful. A preview awaiting upload or review is not a separate free-use grant. No Pexels download or licence badge is claimed until its publication is checked.
Who owns the archive photographs?
The credited creators retain copyright. Jersey Web curates the separate historical archive, provides useful file sizes and explains the supplied reuse conditions. We do not claim to have taken the archive photographs or to own their copyright.
The archive photographs are sourced from Wikimedia Commons. The original file page, creator and exact licence are linked on every download page. The collection includes archive views; capture dates are shown where the source records them.
What the archive licences allow
| Licence | Commercial reuse | Your credit |
|---|---|---|
| CC BY 2.0 | Copy, share and adapt under its terms. | Keep the supplied title, creator, source and licence. |
| CC BY 3.0 | Copy, share and adapt under its terms. | Keep the supplied title, creator, source and licence. |
Describe changes when you create an adaptation. You must not imply that the photographer endorses your business, and you must not impose restrictions that prevent uses allowed by the original licence. The linked licence terms govern each photograph.
How to credit an archive photograph
- Open the archive photograph’s download page and copy its credit.
- Place the credit beside the photograph, in a clearly linked photo-credits page, or another reasonable location suited to the medium.
- Keep the image title, photographer’s name, source link and exact licence link. For social posts, include the credit in the caption where practical.
- Describe your changes if you crop, recolour or otherwise adapt the image. Keep any earlier change notices that apply to your version.
A credit to Jersey Web does not replace an archive photographer’s credit. Mentioning our collection or linking to us is optional; we do not require an SEO backlink.
Originals, previews and website files
In the historical archive, original JPEG downloads retain the source file bytes and website JPEGs have been resized and re-encoded. Original JerseyWeb photographs are downloaded through their verified Pexels pages. All local WebP previews are resized and re-encoded; gallery cards display crops, while individual pages retain the full proportions. Social-sharing artwork has a credit overlay.
Each archive photo has a downloadable attribution text file. Save it with your image so you have the source and licence details when you publish. Avoid copying the entire change notice blindly: add the changes that actually apply to your version. Published JerseyWeb photo pages instead provide an optional Pexels credit.
Free does not mean every use is cleared
These are copyright licences. Other rights, including privacy, publicity and trade marks, can still affect a particular use. Do not imply endorsement by identifiable people or businesses in a photograph. Use current pictures of your own premises and products when customers need an accurate view of what you offer.
For the source platform’s reuse guidance, see Wikimedia Commons’ reuse guide. The original photographer’s licence applies rather than a new blanket licence from Jersey Web.
Pexels and other stock platforms
Do not upload the historical archive photographs to Pexels as your own work. JerseyWeb contributes its own original photographs separately. Downloading a photograph does not make you its creator or give you permission to redistribute it on another stock platform. See Pexels’ terms and the licence linked on its individual page.
Report an issue
If you believe an image’s credit, licence or location is incorrect, email Jersey Web with the photo page and the details. We can review the source record and correct or remove the entry.
