How it works
-
Apply
Answer a few questions and tell us why no upfront cost would help. It takes about two minutes.
-
We reply within one business day
A person reads every application and emails you to say whether we can build your site this way.
-
Agree it in writing, then we build
If it’s a yes, we confirm what’s included and the monthly price from £50 before any work starts.
Paying up front or no upfront cost: which suits you?
Both get you a website built by us. The difference is when you pay for the build. If you can pay for it at the start, that works out cheaper. If the upfront cost is what’s stopping you, this plan spreads it out.
| Paying up front | No upfront cost | |
|---|---|---|
| Website build | From £100 | Nothing up front |
| Hosting | From £20 a month | From £50 a month |
| First year, one-page site | From £340 | From £600 |
| Best if | You can pay for the build at the start | The upfront cost is the obstacle |
Hosting covers the server your site runs on, security and the SSL certificate, backups, ongoing maintenance and a real person to contact when you want a change. Your domain name is separate on both. Every price is confirmed in writing before any work starts. Our full price list has the details, and the website planner can help you work out what you need.
Apply for a website with no upfront cost
Anyone can apply, whether you’re a sole trader or freelancer, small business, new business, not trading yet, charity or not-for-profit, club or society or community group. The more you tell us, the quicker we can say yes.
Common questions
Is this a free website?
No. There is no build cost, but hosting on this plan is from £50 a month instead of our usual from £20, so the build is paid for over time rather than up front. Over a year or more it costs more than paying for the build at the start. It suits you if the upfront cost is what is stopping you.
Who can apply?
Anyone. Sole traders, small businesses, new businesses that are not trading yet, charities, clubs and community groups can all apply. Tell us in a sentence or two why no upfront cost would help, and we will tell you whether we can build your site this way.
How quickly will I hear back?
Within one business day. We reply to the email address you give us, and applying commits you to nothing.
What does the monthly fee cover?
Building the website, then the server it runs on, security and the SSL certificate, backups, ongoing maintenance and a real person to contact when you want a change. Your domain name is separate.
What happens if you say yes?
We set out what your website will include, the monthly price and the terms in writing. Nothing starts until you have agreed to them.
Can I get a website that is actually free?
Sometimes. Free website builder plans usually show the builder’s adverts and use their address rather than your own domain, and a Google Business Profile is free but is not a website. Our guides on free builders and on replacing Google’s old business.site websites compare the options honestly.
