The six points in the video

This is a silent video. The headings, explanations and labels below reproduce the information on screen.

  1. Step 1: Start with SPF and DKIM

Configure and check your legitimate email sending services.

On-screen labels: Mailbox service; Website sender; Other sending tools.

  2. Step 2: Alignment connects the domains

DMARC compares authentication with the visible From domain.

On-screen labels: Visible From domain; Authentication domain; Alignment check.

  3. Step 3: One aligned pass can be enough

An aligned SPF pass or an aligned DKIM pass can satisfy DMARC.

On-screen labels: SPF with alignment; Or DKIM with alignment; DMARC result.

  4. Step 4: The policy is published in DNS

None, quarantine and reject express different handling requests.

On-screen labels: Monitor with none; Quarantine request; Reject request.

  5. Step 5: Reports help reveal senders

Aggregate reports can show sources and authentication results.

On-screen labels: Sending sources; Passing results; Failing results.

  6. Step 6: Roll out with provider support

Review the reports before moving to a stricter policy.

On-screen labels: Legitimate mail checked; Gradual policy change; Ongoing monitoring.

A practical check for your business

Review SPF, DKIM and alignment together with the person responsible for domain email. Read actual message results before changing policy; a published policy alone does not demonstrate that legitimate mail is aligned.
