  • Analytics

    A/B testing

A/B testing compares two versions through a planned experiment, commonly assigning visitors to different experiences and measuring a defined outcome.

Also called: split testing, A/B test

  • Domains & email

    AAAA record

An AAAA record associates a hostname with an IPv6 address. It has a different role from an A record, which supplies an IPv4 address. Confirm the intended destination with the hosting provider and verify the relevant connection paths when adding or changing either record.

  • Design & content

    AAC

AAC stands for Advanced Audio Coding and identifies audio encoding with defined types and profiles. It can be carried in supported file arrangements, so its codec name and the enclosing filename are separate details. Review the actual exported sound and playback rather than assume every file containing AAC has an identical technical configuration.

    Also called: Advanced Audio Coding

  • Online selling

    Abandoned cart

An abandoned cart is a shopping selection that does not become a completed purchase. Platforms may distinguish this from an abandoned checkout and measure it differently. It does not prove why someone left. Review the journey and any payment issues before deciding whether follow-up is appropriate.

    Also called: abandoned basket

  • Websites & hosting

    Abort reason

The AbortSignal reason property provides the JavaScript value describing why a signal was aborted, and is undefined before aborting. It can help the implementation distinguish outcomes. Agree customer feedback appropriate to the actual reason, while keeping technical investigation details separate from a useful explanation of the visitor’s next step.

    Also called: AbortSignal.reason

  • Websites & hosting

    Abort signal timeout

AbortSignal.timeout creates a signal that aborts after a specified period of active time, with a TimeoutError reason. Active time can pause in documented suspended conditions. Review the intended waiting policy and supported behaviour rather than interpret the setting as a precise wall-clock deadline or proof that the receiving system did no work.

    Also called: AbortSignal.timeout()

  • Websites & hosting

    AbortController

AbortController lets code signal cancellation to supported asynchronous operations, including fetch requests and response-body reading. The operation needs the associated signal to participate. For a Jersey business, review what stops, what the customer sees and what the receiving system already did; cancelling browser work should not be assumed to undo an enquiry, booking or other business action.

    Also called: request abort controller

  • Websites & hosting

    AbortSignal

An AbortSignal communicates cancellation to a supported asynchronous operation. A controller can supply the signal used by a request. Review the actual connection and visible outcome with the maintainer; a cancellation signal is separate from confirmation that a receiving system reversed any business action it may already have performed.

    Also called: abort signal

  • Design & content

    About page

An about page explains who runs a business, what it does and why a customer might trust it. It can include real people, history and relevant experience. Use accurate information and a clear contact route; avoid invented team members, credentials or claims of being based in Jersey if that is not true.

  • Design & content

    Above the fold

Above the fold means the part of a page visible before a visitor scrolls. There is no fixed fold because devices and browser windows vary. Put the main purpose and a useful next step near the top, while keeping the rest of the page easy to explore.

  • Websites & hosting

    Absolute file path

An absolute file path identifies a location with the starting information required by the applicable filesystem convention. Exact interpretation varies by environment. Record the machine, volume or other relevant context in a handover, then verify the actual target; a complete-looking location string does not establish that the file exists or is the intended current version.

    Also called: Absolute path

  • Websites & hosting

    Accept header

The Accept header describes media types the sender understands. In a request it can help a server choose a suitable response representation, whose actual type is identified separately. It is a format preference rather than a guarantee of success. Check the endpoint’s supported types when connecting a website to an API.

  • Websites & hosting

    Accept-Encoding header

The Accept-Encoding header identifies content encodings the sender understands, commonly compression formats. In a request it helps a server choose an encoding, which is described separately in the response’s Content-Encoding header. It differs from selecting a MIME type. Verify the resulting response rather than assume a preferred compression was applied.

    Also called: Accept-Encoding

  • Security & legal

    Access token

An access token is a credential an application uses to request protected resources under granted permissions. Its scope, validity and format depend on the service. Treat it as sensitive access material and ask who manages expiry, removal and failures for the business’s connection.

  • Design & content

    Accessibility tree

An accessibility tree is a representation of interface information exposed to assistive technology, including relevant names, roles and states. It is related to the rendered document but is not simply a screenshot or identical copy of the HTML. Inspecting it can help diagnose how a control is represented.

  • Design & content

    Accessible description

An accessible description supplies additional information associated with an interface element, such as a field instruction. It is distinct from the element’s accessible name. Keep the name concise, provide helpful supporting information and check that the implemented relationship makes that information available when people need it.

  • Design & content

    Accessible name

An accessible name identifies an interface element to assistive technology, such as the purpose of a button or form field. It can come from visible text or appropriate markup. Review the computed name and actual task, because an attractive icon or nearby text does not automatically provide a usable name.

  • Design & content

    Accordion

An accordion groups sections with controls that expand or collapse their content. It can reduce the initially visible detail, but hiding information also affects discovery. Consider whether customers need to read or compare the sections together, and check the implemented headings, states and keyboard access.

  • Domains & email

    ACME

ACME is a protocol used to automate parts of certificate management, including domain-control validation and certificate issuance. A compatible client and maintained configuration are required. Automation still needs a responsible owner and failure monitoring; using an ACME client does not guarantee that every renewal or installation will succeed.

Also called: Automated Certificate Management Environment

  • Websites & hosting

    Active service worker

An active service worker is the worker exposed by a registration’s active property while it is activating or activated. This differs from a newly installing or waiting worker. Review the actual registration and current page controller when checking an update; a newly deployed script is not by itself proof of which worker the page currently uses.

  • Design & content

    Active text cues

Active text cues are the currently active cues reported for a timed text track. They represent a selection at the current point rather than the track’s entire content. Review the actual mode, timeline and player display; finding an active cue does not establish that its words are accurate or visibly presented to the visitor.

    Also called: Active WebVTT cues

  • Security & legal

    AES-GCM

AES-GCM is a supported authenticated-encryption mode with algorithm-specific parameters in Web Crypto. Its initialization vector must be unique for each encryption operation using the same key. Have a qualified maintainer review the actual design and parameter handling, rather than assume that choosing the algorithm name automatically establishes a secure application.

  • Design & content

    Affinity mapping

Affinity mapping groups related observations, findings or ideas into themes to support analysis or discussion. Grouping can help a team see patterns, but a tidy board does not prove the interpretation. Preserve the evidence and distinguish research observations from brainstorming ideas before using a theme to justify a change.

    Also called: affinity diagramming

  • Design & content

    Affordance

An affordance concerns the interaction an object makes possible. A signifier is a cue communicating that possibility, such as the appearance of a control. Review both the actual action and how people recognise it; making something look clickable does not by itself ensure the intended task works.

  • AI & new tech

    AI embedding

An AI embedding is a numeric representation of content, such as text, produced by an embedding model. Compatible representations can be compared to find related items. A Jersey business may encounter embeddings in document search or an AI assistant. They are separate from the source text, factual verification, access permission and embedding a video on a webpage.

Also called: Vector embedding, AI embeddings

  • AI & new tech

    AI evaluation

AI evaluation measures how a model or application performs against defined tasks and criteria. For a business assistant, useful criteria can include factual support, relevant answers, access boundaries and recovery from unsupported questions. Record representative cases and results; a successful demonstration alone does not establish performance across every customer situation.

    Also called: Model evaluation

  • AI & new tech

    AI fine-tuning

AI fine-tuning adapts a previously trained model through further training for a task or use case. It differs from supplying retrieved documents as answer context. Define the intended improvement and evaluate the resulting model; fine-tuning does not automatically keep business information current or remove the need to check generated answers.

    Also called: Fine-tuning

  • AI & new tech

    AI grounding

AI grounding supplies relevant reference information to guide a generated response. In a retrieval application, this can be approved content selected for the current question. Grounding differs from permanently training the model on those documents. The business still needs to verify whether the answer uses the sources accurately and within their intended scope.

    Also called: Grounding data

  • AI & new tech

    AI inference

AI inference uses a trained model to produce an output for supplied input. It differs from the training process that adjusts the model. A business application needs to evaluate its actual outputs and operating requirements. Running inference does not itself verify the prediction, establish permissions or authorise an action in another service.

  • AI & new tech

    AI Overviews

AI Overviews are Google search features that can provide an AI-generated summary with supporting links. They do not appear for every search and are different from ordinary website results. Google says established SEO practices still apply; there is no special markup that guarantees a Jersey business will be cited.

    Also called: Google AI Overviews

  • AI & new tech

    Algorithm

An algorithm describes steps for solving a problem or performing a task. Software can implement algorithms for many purposes, from processing a list to choosing a result. Ask which behaviour the project needs and how it is checked rather than treating the word as an unexplained guarantee of intelligence.

  • Design & content

    Alpha channel

An alpha channel describes opacity alongside an image’s colour information. It allows parts of an appropriate image to be transparent or partly transparent when displayed over a background. Check edges against the actual site colours; an image that looks clean on a white canvas may reveal a different result over the brand’s dark header.

    Also called: Image alpha channel

  • SEO

    Alt text

Alt text is a text alternative for an image, chosen according to its purpose on the page.

Also called: alternative text, image description

  • Analytics

    Analytics blended identity

Blended reporting identity in Google Analytics uses User-ID, device ID and modeling as applicable. Keep that configuration with the report’s definitions. An owner reviewing a user total should understand the reporting approach and available evidence, rather than assume the result is a direct count of individually identifiable people.

    Also called: GA4 blended identity

  • Analytics

    Analytics data filter

A Google Analytics data filter controls applicable incoming event data from the point it is created, rather than changing historical data. Excluding data has a permanent effect on the affected collection. Agree the purpose, test the rule and document approval before activating a configuration that changes the evidence available to future reports.

    Also called: GA4 data filter

  • Analytics

    Analytics data quality indicator

The Google Analytics data quality indicator explains relevant conditions affecting a report or exploration, including sampling and thresholding. Inspect it for the actual query and keep its explanation with the result. A chart copied into a presentation still needs the context that helps the owner understand what its numbers can support.

Also called: GA4 data quality indicator

  • Analytics

    Analytics data stream

A Google Analytics data stream is a flow of data from a website, iOS app or Android app into Analytics. Keep the stream’s platform and purpose in the measurement handover. The owner and maintainer should identify the intended source before interpreting a report or confirming where a website’s implementation sends its events.

    Also called: GA4 data stream

  • Analytics

    Analytics DebugView

Google Analytics DebugView displays events and user properties from enabled debug activity to help investigate measurement behaviour. Use it for a defined troubleshooting task and keep the relevant device and implementation context clear. Seeing an event in a debug view still needs interpretation alongside the actual customer action and intended business result.

    Also called: GA4 DebugView

  • Analytics

    Analytics developer traffic

Developer traffic filtering in Google Analytics concerns activity using debug mode. It can support troubleshooting in DebugView while excluding that activity from reports. Review the configured filter and its state before relying on the distinction, and keep a separate check of the customer journey that the website is meant to support.

    Also called: GA4 developer traffic

  • Analytics

    Analytics device based identity

Device-based reporting identity in Google Analytics uses device ID and ignores other identity spaces. Keep the option visible in the report handover. Its name does not establish how many distinct customers the business has, so explain the metric and configuration before using a reported total in a customer-growth claim.

Also called: GA4 device based identity

  • Analytics

    Analytics dimension

An analytics dimension describes an attribute used to organise report data, such as device category or page path. It provides the context for a measurement. Check its scope and compatibility with the selected metric before comparing rows, because similarly named fields can answer different reporting questions.

    Also called: dimension (analytics)

  • Analytics

    Analytics filter active

Active is the Google Analytics data-filter state that applies the configured effect to matching incoming data. For an exclusion rule, the loss of affected data is permanent. Confirm the approved scope and test evidence before activation, and record the change so future analysts understand the collection conditions behind their comparisons.

Also called: GA4 active filter state

  • Analytics

    Analytics filter inactive

Inactive is a Google Analytics data-filter state in which the configured rule is not evaluated. Keep the state visible in the setup record. A filter name suggesting staff exclusion is insufficient evidence that the exclusion currently applies, so review the actual configuration before explaining a report’s coverage to the business owner.

Also called: GA4 inactive filter state

  • Analytics

    Analytics filter testing

Testing is a Google Analytics data-filter state that identifies matching data without applying the active filtering effect. Review the match evidence against the intended rule before approving activation. Keep the test conditions and result in the handover so another maintainer can understand which activity the business expected to affect.

Also called: GA4 testing filter state

  • Analytics

    Analytics history page view

Analytics history-based page-view measurement concerns configured detection of browser history state changes. It can matter on websites that update views within an application. Have the maintainer check which navigation produces which event, so a report represents the intended content changes without assuming every history action corresponds to a new customer-facing page.

Also called: GA4 history page views

  • Analytics

    Analytics ignore referrer

The Analytics ignore_referrer instruction tells the system to ignore a referrer for the relevant traffic-source treatment. It needs a deliberate configuration purpose. Review the provider guidance and actual rule before manual use, and avoid assuming that a flag changing attribution removes every event or visitor associated with that source.

    Also called: ignore_referrer

  • Analytics

    Analytics internal traffic

Google Analytics internal traffic identification can mark website activity from specified IP addresses for the relevant filtering setup. Review the actual addresses and purpose with the authorised maintainer. A business should understand which staff or test activity is being identified before approving a rule that could affect its reporting evidence.

    Also called: GA4 internal traffic

  • Analytics

    Analytics linker parameter

The _gl linker parameter carries information used in the documented Google Analytics cross-domain measurement arrangement. Review the actual navigation and any redirects with the maintainer. Its presence is one part of checking the configured route; the receiving page and intended customer task still need verification under the relevant supported conditions.

    Also called: _gl parameter

  • Analytics

    Analytics measurement ID

A Google Analytics measurement ID identifies a web data stream and uses the G- prefix followed by letters and numbers. It connects website measurement to the intended stream. Check the actual configured ID against the authorised setup during a handover, rather than assume a copied tag sends the business’s events to the right destination.

    Also called: GA4 measurement ID

  • Analytics

    Analytics metric

An analytics metric is a quantitative measurement in a report, such as an event count or a calculated rate. Its definition determines what the number represents. Review the unit, counting rules, date range and relevant filters rather than assume a familiar column name proves a business outcome.

    Also called: metric (analytics)

  • Analytics

    Analytics observed identity

Observed reporting identity in Google Analytics uses User-ID and device ID as applicable. It is one of the property’s reporting options. Ask the analyst to document the selected configuration when explaining a user comparison, so a later report can be reviewed against a clear definition instead of an unexplained total.

    Also called: GA4 observed identity

  • Analytics

    Analytics other row

The Analytics other row groups less common dimension values when a reporting table exceeds its applicable row limit. Its meaning depends on the report and query. Keep the grouping explanation with the analysis, so an owner does not mistake a consolidated row for a named customer source or one specific campaign.

    Also called: GA4 (other) row

  • Analytics

    Analytics outbound click

An Analytics outbound-click event records the relevant link action to another domain, with exceptions for configured cross-domain destinations. Review the actual link and measurement setup. A recorded click can help explain navigation, but the receiving website and completed booking or payment need separate evidence before the business reports the final outcome.

    Also called: GA4 outbound clicks

  • Analytics

    Analytics page view

A Google Analytics page_view event records a supported page-load or configured history-change occurrence. Its trigger needs to match the website’s implementation. Keep the event definition clear and inspect the actual customer view, rather than equate one recorded page event with reading the content, understanding a service or completing an enquiry.

    Also called: page_view

  • Analytics

    Analytics property

A Google Analytics property groups website or app data and provides a context for reports and measurement settings. Identify the correct property before reviewing a dashboard or changing configuration. Keep its ownership and purpose in the handover so a new agency can distinguish the intended business setup from a separate test or historical context.

    Also called: GA4 property

  • Analytics

    Analytics Realtime report

The Google Analytics Realtime report shows recent recorded activity on a website or app. It can help with launch monitoring and measurement checks. Keep its scope and observation time clear, and review the actual customer outcome separately before treating a recent event count as a final assessment of a campaign or enquiry route.

    Also called: GA4 Realtime

  • Analytics

    Analytics reporting identity

Google Analytics reporting identity determines which available identity spaces are used to describe users in reports. It is a reporting configuration choice. Record the selected option with an important comparison and ask the analyst to explain its meaning before interpreting a difference between views as a change in the business’s actual customers.

    Also called: GA4 reporting identity

  • Analytics

    Analytics scroll event

The enhanced-measurement scroll event records the first occurrence when the documented 90% vertical depth becomes visible on a page. It describes that trigger, rather than comprehension. Keep the definition with the report and review the actual content task before presenting a scroll count as evidence that customers read or understood the page.

    Also called: GA4 scroll

  • Analytics

    Analytics segment

An analytics segment selects a subset of data according to defined conditions, such as users or events relevant to an exploration. It helps answer a focused question. Review the inclusion rules and scope before comparing results, and distinguish the selected report subset from a customer audience used elsewhere.

    Also called: segment (analytics)

  • Analytics

    Analytics self referral

An Analytics self-referral is referral traffic associated with pages within the business’s own domains. Google documents automatic handling in relevant cases. If an unexpected source appears, inspect the actual journey and reporting context before adding a rule, so the team addresses the underlying configuration rather than merely changing a visible label.

    Also called: GA4 self referral

  • Analytics

    Analytics session ID

An Analytics session ID identifies a measured session within its relevant user context. Google describes its generation when a session starts. Ask the analyst to explain the combination needed for the actual analysis, rather than assume a timestamp-based session value alone is a globally unique identity for every customer visit.

    Also called: ga_session_id

  • Analytics

    Analytics session number

The Analytics session number indicates how many sessions the measured user has started up to the current one. Keep the measurement and user context clear when interpreting it. A reported sequence is evidence from the configured setup, so avoid relabelling it as a complete history of all business interactions with that customer.

    Also called: ga_session_number

  • Analytics

    Analytics session start

The session_start event is collected when an Analytics session begins and supports the associated session identifiers and attribution context. Review its reporting meaning alongside the actual customer action. A measured session starting is separate from a completed enquiry, signed-in account or confirmed purchase, each of which needs its own defined evidence.

    Also called: session_start

  • Analytics

    Analytics session timeout

Analytics session timeout is the inactivity period after which Google Analytics treats a measured session as ended. The default is 30 minutes, and web settings can be adjusted. For a Jersey business, document the chosen setting and its reporting purpose, and keep it distinct from account sign-out, booking expiry or the time limit of a customer transaction.

    Also called: GA4 session timeout

  • Analytics

    Analytics stream ID

A Google Analytics stream ID is the identifier for a data stream, and a Stream ID dimension can distinguish stream data in reporting. Keep it associated with the stream’s actual purpose. Review the exact field requested by a setup process instead of assuming that every Analytics identifier is interchangeable.

    Also called: GA4 stream ID

  • Analytics

    Analytics User-ID

Analytics User-ID is a Google Analytics feature that uses a business’s own consistent identifiers to connect recorded user activity across sessions, devices and platforms. It commonly relates to signed-in users. For a Jersey business, review the identifier design, login and logout behaviour, reporting configuration and permitted data before treating the feature as a reliable account-level analysis.

    Also called: GA4 User-ID

  • SEO

    Anchor text

Anchor text is the visible wording of a link. Helpful wording explains the destination, such as “Jersey website security guide”, rather than “click here”. It helps readers decide whether to follow the link and gives search engines context. Use words that fit the sentence naturally.

    Also called: link text

  • Design & content

    Animation delay

Animation delay controls when a CSS animation begins relative to applying it; the sequence can begin later or at an offset. Review the implemented start behaviour and its reason. Keep the expected initial appearance clear, especially where customers need to understand the page before or while the animated material starts.

    Also called: animation-delay

  • Design & content

    Animation direction

Animation direction controls whether a CSS sequence plays forward, backward or alternates between directions. It is a playback setting, separate from the keyframe appearances themselves. Review the actual sequence and repeated behaviour against the approved purpose, so a directional choice supports the information the visitor is intended to recognise.

    Also called: animation-direction

  • Design & content

    Animation duration

Animation duration sets the time a CSS animation takes to complete one cycle. Repetition and delay have their own settings. Review the useful sequence in context, including the information visible during and after playback, so an approved cycle length is connected to the customer task rather than judged only as a number in a stylesheet.

    Also called: animation-duration

  • Design & content

    Animation fill mode

Animation fill mode controls how a CSS animation applies styles before and after its execution. Keep the intended initial and final appearances documented. Review the real page once playback ends or before it starts, so important information and controls remain understandable beyond the moving portion of the effect.

    Also called: animation-fill-mode

  • Design & content

    Animation iteration count

Animation iteration count controls how many times a CSS animation sequence plays before stopping. Keep the intended repetition explicit in the brief. Review the effect in its surrounding content and any relevant playback controls, rather than approve one attractive cycle while leaving the visitor’s ongoing reading and interaction experience unspecified.

    Also called: animation-iteration-count

  • Design & content

    Animation name

Animation name identifies the keyframe sequence or sequences applied by a CSS animation. A name without a matching keyframes rule does not animate properties. Keep the relevant sequence and purpose documented, then review the actual displayed effect and playback settings rather than assume that an animation name describes its complete behaviour.

    Also called: animation-name

  • Design & content

    Animation play state

Animation play state sets whether a CSS animation runs or pauses. Resuming a paused sequence continues from its paused position. Review the actual controls and visible state where visitor control is required; a stylesheet property alone does not establish that customers can locate a pause action or use the content comfortably.

    Also called: animation-play-state

  • Design & content

    Animation timing function

The animation timing function sets how a CSS animation progresses through its cycle. Review it alongside duration, keyframes and repetition in the actual sequence. The business should approve a clear presentation with useful information, rather than assume that one easing label specifies all the timing and playback behaviour the feature needs.

    Also called: animation-timing-function

  • Security & legal

    Anonymisation

Anonymisation aims to produce information that no longer identifies people in the relevant circumstances. Removing names alone may not achieve that result. Review the remaining information and possible identification routes before treating a dataset as anonymous or publishing it from a Jersey business system.

    Also called: anonymization

  • AI & new tech

    API

An API is a set of rules that lets software use another system’s features or information.

    Also called: application programming interface

  • AI & new tech

    API changelog

An API changelog records changes to a provider’s interface or behaviour, such as added fields, changed requirements or removed features. It helps a maintainer review what affects an integration. Match the notes to the actual service version and check the relevant business task instead of treating the list as proof that an upgrade is compatible.

  • AI & new tech

    API contract

An API contract describes the supported interactions between software systems, including operations, expected inputs, responses and relevant behaviour. Documentation or a machine-readable description can express parts of it. A written contract still needs to match the implemented service, so verify the actual version and required outcome for the integration.

  • AI & new tech

    API deprecation

API deprecation indicates that a provider discourages continued use of a particular interface or feature, often with a supported replacement or retirement plan. Review the actual notice, dates and affected operations. Deprecation and removal are different stages, so record the integration’s migration responsibility before assuming an old feature will remain available.

  • AI & new tech

    API endpoint

An API endpoint is an access point for a particular operation in a software interface, commonly identified by a URL and request method. It is part of an API, rather than the entire integration. A Jersey business should understand what the endpoint does, its permissions, expected information and how failures are handled.

    Also called: endpoint

  • Security & legal

    API key

An API key is a credential or identifier a service uses to recognise an application’s requests under its rules. The permitted operations and secrecy depend on the key type and provider. Protect confidential keys, grant the required access and document ownership, replacement and revocation so the website integration remains maintainable when people or services change.

  • AI & new tech

    API pagination

API pagination splits a list response into portions rather than returning every record at once. The client follows the provider’s supported mechanism to retrieve further results. A business report or synchronisation should handle all required pages and relevant limits instead of silently using only the first response.

    Also called: paginated API

  • AI & new tech

    API schema

An API schema describes relevant data shapes, types and constraints used by an interface. Its scope depends on the technology: a GraphQL schema also describes available fields and operations. Schema validity does not prove that values are factually correct or that a caller is permitted to access every item.

  • AI & new tech

    API versioning

API versioning identifies the service interface or behaviour an integration uses as the provider changes it. The selection method and support policy depend on the service. Record the actual version, review relevant changes and verify the business task before an upgrade rather than assume every new version behaves identically.

  • Design & content

    APNG

APNG means Animated PNG. It provides frame-based animation in the PNG format, covered by the PNG specification. It differs from an ordinary still-image export even when related files use PNG naming. Review whether motion helps the page’s purpose, the actual asset size and the experience of visitors who need a clear static explanation.

    Also called: Animated PNG

  • Websites & hosting

    Archive extraction

Archive extraction writes packaged archive contents into a destination through a supported tool. The format, selected entries and destination affect the operation. Agree the intended folder and file effects with the maintainer, then compare recovered material with the expected handover list; successful extraction alone does not establish that the package contains the correct versions.

    Also called: Extracting an archive

  • Websites & hosting

    Archive member

An archive member is an individual entry within an archive package. In ZIP handling, entries expose details such as a relative path and compressed and uncompressed sizes. Inspect relevant entries and recovered files during a handover; an entry appearing in a listing is separate from demonstrating that its content is the required usable version.

    Also called: Archive entry

  • Design & content

    ARIA

ARIA provides roles, states and properties that can describe interfaces to assistive technology. It is useful where native HTML cannot express the required behaviour. Incorrect ARIA can create problems, so prefer suitable native elements and test the actual keyboard and screen-reader experience.

Also called: Accessible Rich Internet Applications, WAI-ARIA

  • Design & content

    ARIA error message

The aria-errormessage attribute identifies the element or elements providing an error message for a control. It needs an appropriate invalid state and relevant visible feedback. Have the maintainer assess supported interactions and review the actual association, so an attribute reference is not treated as proof that the visitor receives understandable or usable correction information.

    Also called: aria-errormessage

  • Design & content

    ARIA invalid

The aria-invalid state communicates that a value fails the application’s expected requirements. It needs accurate state management and useful feedback in the actual control. Review a relevant error and correction with supported interaction, so the announced state changes appropriately and the visitor can understand which input needs attention.

    Also called: aria-invalid

  • Design & content

    ARIA required

The aria-required attribute communicates that an element needs user input to assistive technology. It does not add validation behaviour. Review the actual control’s implementation, visible instruction and supported announcement together, so the communicated requirement matches what the feature enforces and the visitor can understand how to complete the task.

    Also called: aria-required

  • Design & content

    Aria-describedby

Aria-describedby associates an element with additional descriptive text by referencing element identifiers. It can connect a field to a useful hint or error explanation. It is distinct from a naming attribute. Verify the references and actual presentation so the information remains available in the working form.

    Aria-expanded

Aria-expanded communicates whether a related expandable interface is open or closed where that property applies. It describes a state; it does not implement the show-or-hide behaviour. Keep the value aligned with the actual component and review its label, controlled content and keyboard operation.

    Array

An array is an indexed collection of values in programming. In JavaScript, array positions start at zero and methods help transform, select or organise its entries. For a Jersey business, explain what each entry represents, which order matters and how missing or repeated items are handled before accepting the list used in a customer feature.

  • AI & new tech

    Array every

Array.every() returns false when it finds a processed entry that fails its supplied test; otherwise it returns true. Explain which test the feature applies and review the relevant data conditions. A boolean result needs a defined business interpretation before it is used as evidence that the customer’s information or selected choices meet the receiving requirements.

    Also called: Array.every()

    Array filter

Array.filter() creates a new shallow array containing entries that pass a supplied test. Define what the test means for the business, then inspect included and excluded choices. A successful filtering operation does not establish current availability or receiving permission, and the feature needs useful feedback when no choices remain.

    Also called: Array.filter()

  • AI & new tech

    Array find

Array.find() returns the first entry passing its test, or undefined when no entry qualifies. It does not return every match. Review whether the feature needs the first qualifying item or a whole selection, then check the relevant missing-result response before using the value in the customer task.

    Also called: Array.find()

  • AI & new tech

    Array includes

Array.includes() returns a boolean indicating whether an array contains the specified value. Keep the value and matching purpose clear in the feature. A successful membership check does not establish that a product is currently available or that a customer action is authorised; review the receiving rules and actual outcome separately.

    Also called: Array.includes()

  • AI & new tech

    Array index of

Array.indexOf() returns the first index at which its specified value is found, or minus one when it is absent. The position is an array location. Review how the implementation handles absence and list updates, so a numbered position is not mistakenly treated as a permanent product identifier or a completed customer response.

    Also called: Array.indexOf()

  • AI & new tech

    Array is array

Array.isArray() checks whether a supplied value is an array. It identifies the collection type rather than validating its entries. Review the expected list shape, required fields and permitted values separately, so a successful array check is not expanded into proof of complete or usable information for the receiving business task.

    Also called: Array.isArray()

  • AI & new tech

    Array map

Array.map() creates a new array from the results of calling a supplied function on the processed entries. It supports a transformation, such as preparing display information. Review the expected output for representative values; using map does not by itself establish correct labels, complete data or a useful customer summary.

    Also called: Array.map()

  • AI & new tech

    Array reduce

Array.reduce() combines processed entries through a supplied function into a final accumulated result. The function and initial-value handling determine what that result means. Review representative values and relevant empty-input handling, rather than assume that any reduced output is a correct total, complete summary or approved business decision.

    Also called: Array.reduce()

  • AI & new tech

    Array slice

Array.slice() returns a new shallow array for a selected portion, with the ending index excluded. It does not modify the original array. Review the intended portion and resulting information; a new outer list should not be assumed to provide an independent deep copy of every nested record used by the feature.

    Also called: Array.slice()

  • AI & new tech

    Array some

Array.some() checks whether at least one processed entry passes a supplied test, returning a boolean. It does not return the matching item itself. Agree the test’s business meaning and review the next operation, so a true result is not expanded into proof that every entry qualifies or that a receiving task is complete.

    Also called: Array.some()

  • AI & new tech

    Array sort

Array.sort() sorts an array in place and returns that same array. Its default comparison converts values to strings rather than providing an ordinary numeric price order. Agree the actual comparison rule and inspect representative results, including which shared collection changes when the customer chooses a different visible ordering.

    Also called: Array.sort()

  • AI & new tech

    Array splice

Array.splice() removes, replaces or adds entries in the original array. It changes that list in place. Explain which collection the feature is allowed to update and review the resulting choices, especially when another part of the workflow relies on the same array or the brief expects an unchanged approved list.

    Also called: Array.splice()

  • AI & new tech

    Array to sorted

Array.toSorted() is a copying sorting method that returns a new sorted array. Keep the comparison rule and visible ordering explicit. Review representative values and the original collection separately, so choosing a new outer list is not treated as proof that every nested record was copied independently or that the displayed order is suitable.

    Also called: Array.toSorted()

  • AI & new tech

    ArrayBuffer

ArrayBuffer represents a raw binary data buffer in JavaScript. Typed arrays or a DataView provide views used to read and write its contents. The buffer does not by itself identify the business meaning or file format of its bytes. Check the intended representation and interpretation when passing binary data between application components.

    Also called: Array Buffer

    Artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence is a broad name for computer systems designed to perform tasks associated with intelligence, such as recognising patterns or generating responses. Different systems have different capabilities. For a Jersey business, judge a tool by a specific task and check its output rather than assuming the label means human understanding.

    ASCII

ASCII stands for American Standard Code for Information Interchange. It defines a seven-bit character arrangement covering 128 values, including letters, digits, punctuation and control codes. It does not cover the full range of Unicode text. Review the actual integration requirements before assuming a text-only field accepts every name or symbol the business needs.

Also called: American Standard Code for Information Interchange

    Aspect ratio

Aspect ratio describes the relationship between width and height. A wide banner and a square image have different ratios even at different resolutions. Check cropping and the subject’s position when preparing website artwork so important content survives the shape used by the page.

    Assertion

An assertion expresses an expected condition that a test checks, such as whether useful confirmation appears after an action. It should relate to meaningful behaviour. Ask what a passing assertion establishes and which parts of the customer or receiving process it leaves outside the check.

    Astro

Astro is a web framework designed for content-driven websites. Its supported tools can combine content and components in a project, with delivery depending on the chosen setup. A business should review the actual published pages, interactive features and maintenance process rather than infer performance or rankings from the framework name.

    Async function

A JavaScript async function returns a Promise for its result, or rejection for an uncaught exception, and can contain await expressions. It supports organising asynchronous code. The declaration alone does not establish a fast or successful customer task; review the actual operations, dependencies and visible waiting or failure behaviour.

    Also called: async function declaration

  • AI & new tech

    Async/await

Async/await is JavaScript syntax for working with Promise-based operations: an async function returns a Promise, and await pauses the relevant execution until an awaited outcome is available. It helps organise dependent steps. For a Jersey business, review waiting, errors and the meaning of each result; the syntax alone does not make a task faster or prove completion.

    Also called: async await

  • AI & new tech

    Asynchronous

Asynchronous work allows an operation to complete without requiring the calling flow to wait in the same way as a synchronous operation. The actual implementation controls how completion and failure are handled. Review progress messages and the eventual customer outcome rather than assuming asynchronous means immediate or guaranteed success.

    Also called: async

    Attach shadow

Element.attachShadow attaches a supported shadow DOM tree to an element and returns its shadow root. Not every element can receive one, and relevant implementation options apply. Ask the maintainer to identify the actual arrangement; successful attachment concerns structure, while the visible content, customer interaction and maintenance contract still require review.

    Also called: attachShadow

    Attribution

Marketing attribution assigns credit for a measured outcome to interactions using a chosen rule or model.

    Audio channels

Audio channels are separate channels within a sound arrangement; mono uses one and stereo uses two. Their purpose and delivery should be reviewed in the actual recording and player. More channels do not by themselves prove clearer speech, and the channel count is separate from sample rate, encoded bitrate and the surrounding file format.

    Also called: Audio channel count

  • Design & content

    Audio codec

An audio codec encodes and decodes a sound stream. The chosen format and settings help determine the delivered audio, while the container packages it where applicable. A Jersey business publishing interviews, instructions or video sound should review intelligibility, playback and the source master rather than assume a filename describes the whole audio arrangement.

  • Design & content

    Audio description

Audio description communicates visual information needed to understand a video through audio. It can explain an action, displayed text or another important visual that the existing soundtrack does not convey. A Jersey business should plan the required meaning and delivery method, then review the described experience; captions communicate meaningful sound in text and serve a different purpose.

    Also called: video description

  • Design & content

    Audio sample rate

Audio sample rate describes the number of audio samples per second. It is separate from the amount of encoded audio data per second and the number of channels. Ask the editor to identify the actual export properties and listen to the important content; a sample-rate figure alone does not establish intelligibility or recording quality.

    Also called: Audio sampling rate

    Audit trail

An audit trail records relevant actions so authorised reviewers can understand who did what and when. Its usefulness depends on the recorded events and protection against alteration. Review access, retention and the actual questions the business needs to answer rather than assuming every ordinary log is a complete audit record.

  • Security & legal

    Authentication

Authentication verifies a claimed identity using an appropriate mechanism, such as a passkey or password. It answers a different question from what the account may do. A Jersey business should review account recovery and stronger sign-in protection as well as the initial login screen.

    Also called: AuthN

  • Security & legal

    Authorisation

Authorisation decides whether an identified person or system may perform an action or access a resource. Logging in does not imply permission to do everything. Check the actual roles and server-side access rules when reviewing staff accounts on a Jersey business website.

    Also called: authorization, AuthZ

  • Domains & email

    Authoritative DNS

An authoritative DNS server provides the records for the zone it serves. It has a different role from a recursive resolver that looks up answers for a client. A business should know which provider holds its authoritative records and who is authorised to change them.

    Also called: authoritative nameserver

    Autocomplete

Autocomplete is an HTML attribute that gives browsers guidance about automatic form completion and the kind of information a field expects. Appropriate values can help identify familiar details, while the browser and visitor control the actual filling behaviour. For a Jersey business, keep labels clear, review filled entries and check the completed enquiry; autocomplete is assistance rather than verification.

    Also called: form autocomplete

  • Analytics

    Automatic event detection

Automatic event detection settings control supported events the Google tag detects for connected destinations. Review the actual options and intended measurement purpose before relying on them. An automatically recorded interaction still needs a clear definition and a check against the customer task that the business wants its report to describe.

Also called: Google tag automatic events

  • Design & content

    Autonomous custom element

An autonomous custom element inherits from the base HTMLElement interface and defines its own behaviour. It differs from a customised built-in element that extends an existing HTML element. Identify the actual implementation during a handover, then review supported content and interaction rather than infer a complete customer experience from the element type.

    Also called: Standalone custom element

    Autoscaling

Autoscaling adjusts relevant computing capacity through configured rules or policies. The service’s metrics, limits and workload design determine how it operates. Review the actual trigger, resource bounds and application dependencies, and verify the intended task under the agreed test scope rather than assume scaling makes every bottleneck disappear.

    Also called: auto scaling

    AV1

AV1, or AOMedia Video 1, is a video codec developed through the Alliance for Open Media. It identifies picture encoding, separate from the file’s container and sound codec. A business should check its actual delivery arrangement and intended playback devices rather than assume the format name guarantees universal compatibility or a fixed file-size reduction.

    Also called: AOMedia Video 1

    Availability date

An availability date in product data can indicate when a preordered or backordered item is expected to ship, following the service’s format and requirements. It is separate from the customer’s final delivery date. Keep the supplied date aligned with the actual offer and update the source when the expectation changes.

    Also called: Product availability date

  • Websites & hosting

    Availability Zone

An Availability Zone is a provider-defined isolated location within a cloud region, with the relevant infrastructure arrangement described by that provider. Using multiple zones can support resilience when the application is designed for it. Review dependencies, data handling and recovery rather than assuming that the zone label alone guarantees uninterrupted service.

    AVIF

AVIF is an image format based on AV1 image coding stored in a HEIF container. It can be used for compressed web images. A Jersey business should review real exports, the intended browser support and any fallback; choosing AVIF does not guarantee the smallest suitable file or a particular page-speed improvement.

Also called: AV1 Image File Format

    Await operator

JavaScript await pauses the relevant execution while an awaited outcome is handled; the expression does not by itself block the main thread. It is used in supported async-function or module contexts. Review the dependent operation and customer feedback instead of assume an await expression specifies a visible loading state or confirms business completion.

    Also called: await expression
