Website and marketing terms beginning with P

107 plain-English definitions, from PaaS to Python. Terms with a link have a full explanation with a Jersey example. To search every term, go back to the Jargon Buster.

  • Websites & hosting

    PaaS

    PaaS means Platform as a Service. It supplies a platform for developing or running applications while the provider manages relevant underlying components. Its scope varies by offering. The application, data and access arrangements still need review, so record the actual responsibilities rather than infer them only from the service category.

    Also called: Platform as a Service

  • Websites & hosting

    Package manager

    A package manager helps obtain and manage software packages and their dependency relationships. Different ecosystems use different tools. A website handover should identify the chosen manager, supported installation process and project files so another developer can prepare the reviewed environment consistently.

  • Websites & hosting

    Package manifest

    A package manifest describes a software package or project, including relevant metadata, dependencies and configured commands. In an npm project, package.json serves this role. It works alongside resolved installation information; reviewing the manifest alone does not establish which files were built or deployed.

    Also called: package.json

  • Websites & hosting

    Package registry

    A package registry makes software packages available for distribution and retrieval. Registries can have different access and publishing arrangements. Record where the project obtains its packages and who controls relevant publishing access; a package being available in a registry does not by itself establish its suitability or safety.

  • Websites & hosting

    Packet

    A network packet is a formatted unit of data sent across a network, with information used to handle its delivery. A page or application exchange can involve many packets. For a business website, investigate the observed connection and task rather than treating one packet statistic as the whole customer experience.

    Also called: network packet

  • Websites & hosting

    Packet loss

    Packet loss occurs when data packets sent across a network do not reach their destination. Its effect depends on the application and protocol, and a test measures a particular path under particular conditions. A Jersey business should record the affected task, method and time, then ask the responsible maintainer to interpret the evidence and check the actual service outcome.

  • Online selling

    Packing slip

    A packing slip lists the items associated with a shipment, often including quantities and product references. It helps staff check the package and customers identify what it contains. It differs from the carrier’s shipping label. For an order sent in parts, review the slip for the actual items in each shipment.

  • Security & legal

    Padlock icon

    A padlock or other connection indicator in a browser relates to the site’s HTTPS connection. Browser designs vary. Encryption protects data in transit but does not prove a business is trustworthy or that its content is safe. Check the address and the business before sending money or sensitive information.

    Also called: browser padlock

  • Websites & hosting

    Page speed

    Page speed describes how quickly a web page becomes useful to someone after they open it.

    Also called: website speed, load speed

  • Websites & hosting

    Page Visibility API

    The Page Visibility API exposes whether a document is considered visible or hidden and reports changes to that state. Code can use it to adjust supported page behaviour. For a Jersey business, review the actual pause, return and feedback rules; a visible document does not prove someone is attending to it, and a visibility change does not establish business completion.

    Also called: document visibility API

  • SEO

    Pagination

    Pagination divides a collection across multiple pages. Website navigation and API pagination have different implementation contexts. For public listings, provide usable routes between pages and review how crawlers can discover relevant items. Check actual page addresses and customer behaviour rather than assuming a numbered control covers both needs.

    Also called: paginated pages

  • Security & legal

    Parameterised query

    A parameterised query separates a database statement’s structure from the data values supplied to it through a supported binding arrangement. It is an important protection against relevant SQL injection. Review the actual database interface and query construction; parameterising values does not automatically make every dynamically assembled identifier or permission decision safe.

    Also called: parameterized query, prepared statement

  • AI & new tech

    Parse float

    JavaScript parseFloat() interprets text and returns a floating-point value under its parsing rules. Ask which formats the feature supports and how it handles unsuitable input. Review the complete entry and receiving requirements, so producing a numeric result is not expanded into proof that the whole value meets the task’s business rules.

    Also called: parseFloat()

  • AI & new tech

    Parse integer

    JavaScript parseInt() interprets text and returns an integer using its supported numeral-base rule. Conversion and business validation have different roles. Have the maintainer assess the complete submitted representation, permitted range and unsuccessful handling before treating a returned number as an accepted quantity or preserved business identifier.

    Also called: parseInt()

  • AI & new tech

    Parsing

    Parsing examines input according to a defined structure or syntax so software can work with it. Reading a structured file successfully does not establish that every business value is appropriate. Ask how the application also validates the required information and handles an unsuccessful read.

    Also called: parse

  • Design & content

    Participant recruitment

    Participant recruitment finds people relevant to a research study’s questions and intended service users. Who participates affects what the study can explain. Record the selection criteria and practical access needs, and avoid treating the opinions of convenient colleagues as representative evidence about every customer.

    Also called: research recruitment

  • Design & content

    Passive event listener

    A passive event listener declares that its handler will not call preventDefault to cancel the event’s default action. Review that setting against the feature’s actual interaction requirements. Keep any performance discussion tied to the implemented behaviour, and inspect the customer task rather than assume that the option alone makes an interface faster or more usable.

    Also called: passive listener

  • Security & legal

    Passkeys

    Passkeys are a way to sign in using cryptographic credentials rather than typing a reusable password.

    Also called: passkey, passwordless sign-in

  • Analytics

    Path exploration

    A path exploration visualises sequences in measured website or app activity, such as the pages or events following a selected starting point. It can suggest where to investigate a journey. Review filters, event definitions and coverage; the observed sequence alone does not reveal the visitor’s reason for each action.

  • Websites & hosting

    Path normalisation

    Path normalisation processes a path string according to the tool’s rules, such as resolving dot segments and repeated separators. It is separate from verifying the real filesystem target. Have the maintainer check the actual location, link behaviour and authorised operation rather than treat a normalised string as proof that a file exists or is safe to change.

    Also called: Path normalization

  • AI & new tech

    Path parameter

    A path parameter supplies a variable value within an API route, such as an identifier selecting a relevant resource. The provider’s description defines the supported route and value. Knowing or changing an identifier does not grant access to the resource, so the server still needs the appropriate permission and validation checks.

  • Websites & hosting

    Path separator

    A path separator divides path components under the applicable platform convention. Node.js documents a backslash on Windows and a slash on POSIX for its platform-specific separator. Keep those conventions separate from URL syntax and application-specific processing; replacing characters in a path string does not establish that it identifies the intended resource.

    Also called: Directory separator

  • Online selling

    Payment gateway

    A payment gateway is part of the payment system that securely passes payment information between a checkout and payment services.

  • Websites & hosting

    Peer dependency

    A peer dependency declares compatibility with another package expected in the surrounding project, commonly where a plugin works with a host tool or library. Its handling depends on the package manager and configuration. Review the actual compatibility requirement rather than dismiss a conflict as an irrelevant installation warning.

  • Websites & hosting

    Pending mutation records

    The Mutation Observer takeRecords method retrieves detected changes that have not reached the callback and empties that pending queue. It can support deliberate handling before observation stops. Have the maintainer explain whether the feature needs those records and inspect the resulting behaviour; retrieving them does not automatically complete a separate business workflow.

    Also called: MutationObserver.takeRecords()

  • Websites & hosting

    Performance API

    The Performance API is a collection of browser standards for recording web application performance. It exposes built-in measurements and supports custom timing entries. For a Jersey business, use it to investigate a clearly defined customer task, recording the measurement’s scope and conditions. A timing value needs interpretation alongside the actual website behaviour and the result the customer receives.

    Also called: Performance APIs

  • Websites & hosting

    Performance clear marks

    The Performance clearMarks method removes named mark entries from the performance timeline, or all marks when no name is supplied. It manages timing records rather than reverse the application task. Agree when evidence is no longer needed and keep the cleanup scope explicit so a later investigation still has its intended records.

    Also called: performance.clearMarks()

  • Websites & hosting

    Performance clear measures

    The Performance clearMeasures method removes named measure entries from the performance timeline, or all measures when its name argument is omitted. It clears measurement records rather than change a customer outcome. Review the reporting and cleanup order with the maintainer so the intended evidence is processed before relevant records are removed.

    Also called: performance.clearMeasures()

  • Websites & hosting

    Performance entry

    A PerformanceEntry represents an individual metric within the browser’s performance timeline. Specialised entry types describe different observations, including resource loading and custom marks or measures. Ask which type, name and timing fields the report uses, and interpret their defined scope instead of treating every entry as evidence of complete page or business-task performance.

    Also called: PerformanceEntry

  • Websites & hosting

    Performance get entries

    The Performance getEntries method retrieves eligible entries currently present in the performance timeline, ordered by start time. It is a snapshot rather than future notifications, and some entry types require a Performance Observer. Review the collection scope and limitations before describing one returned array as complete ongoing performance monitoring.

    Also called: performance.getEntries()

  • Websites & hosting

    Performance get entries by name

    The Performance getEntriesByName method retrieves eligible timeline entries matching a name, with an optional type filter. It returns current matching records rather than notify code about later entries. Keep the naming contract clear and treat an empty array as missing matching evidence to investigate, rather than proof that the operation had no delay.

    Also called: performance.getEntriesByName()

  • Websites & hosting

    Performance get entries by type

    The Performance getEntriesByType method retrieves eligible current timeline records for an entry type, ordered by start time. It does not supply future notifications, and some types are available through an observer instead. Agree the intended records and collection method before using a filtered result as evidence about the entire website experience.

    Also called: performance.getEntriesByType()

  • Websites & hosting

    Performance mark

    A PerformanceMark is a named timestamp entry with the mark type and no duration. Calling performance.mark normally adds one to the timeline; constructing a PerformanceMark directly does not. Review how the implementation creates and collects the record, then explain its application meaning rather than assume the label confirms a business outcome.

    Also called: PerformanceMark

  • Websites & hosting

    Performance mark method

    The Performance mark method creates a named timestamp marker in the browser’s performance timeline. It can include configured timing and structured-cloneable detail. Agree which application condition the mark represents and review its placement; an optimistic name such as completed does not establish that a receiving system finished the intended business task.

    Also called: performance.mark()

  • Websites & hosting

    Performance measure

    A PerformanceMeasure is a named interval entry produced through performance.measure, with the measure type and its duration. It describes the timing boundaries the implementation selected. Keep their definition and relevant outcomes with the number, so a report reader knows which stages are included and which customer or receiving-system checks remain separate.

    Also called: PerformanceMeasure

  • Websites & hosting

    Performance measure method

    The Performance measure method creates a named timing measurement with specified boundaries in the performance timeline. The chosen start and end define what the interval includes. Keep those boundaries and relevant outcomes with the report, so a shorter duration is interpreted against the same operation and does not conceal an earlier failure.

    Also called: performance.measure()

  • Websites & hosting

    Performance now

    The performance.now method returns a high-resolution timestamp in milliseconds relative to the current performance time origin, using a monotonic clock. It is useful for timing a defined operation. Keep the interval, context and units clear, rather than interpret a raw timestamp as a calendar time or a complete customer journey.

    Also called: performance.now()

  • Websites & hosting

    Performance Observer

    A Performance Observer is a browser interface that notifies code when selected kinds of performance entries are recorded. It helps developers collect timing information as relevant entries become available. For a Jersey business, ask which records are supported and observed, how earlier or missing entries are handled, and what the collected measurements establish about the customer task being reviewed.

    Also called: PerformanceObserver

  • Websites & hosting

    Performance observer disconnect

    The PerformanceObserver disconnect method stops an observer receiving performance-entry events. It concerns the collection mechanism rather than stopping the application operation being measured. Specify when observation should end and review the report’s coverage, so later actions are not assumed to be represented after the observer has been disconnected.

    Also called: PerformanceObserver.disconnect()

  • Websites & hosting

    Performance observer observe

    The PerformanceObserver observe method configures the entry types an observer watches. Its buffered option is used with a single type to include relevant earlier buffered entries; it cannot be combined with entryTypes. Have the maintainer review the actual collection configuration and supported records before claiming a report covers the intended period.

    Also called: PerformanceObserver.observe()

  • Websites & hosting

    Performance observer supported types

    PerformanceObserver supportedEntryTypes lists the entry types supported by the current user agent. The available types vary by browser and context. Check the records required by the actual implementation and represent unsupported evidence explicitly, rather than assume an interface being available guarantees that every timing category can be observed.

    Also called: PerformanceObserver.supportedEntryTypes

  • Websites & hosting

    Performance observer take records

    The PerformanceObserver takeRecords method retrieves the entries currently stored in the observer and empties that list. It is a way to handle queued records, not a complete analysis of the website. Review the processing order and actual report so taking records does not silently discard evidence needed for the defined performance investigation.

    Also called: PerformanceObserver.takeRecords()

  • Websites & hosting

    Performance time origin

    The Performance timeOrigin property identifies the baseline for performance timestamps in the relevant context. Window and worker contexts can have different origins, which matters when relating their measurements. Have the maintainer explain the actual reference points before comparing raw values from separate contexts as if they described the same timeline.

    Also called: performance.timeOrigin

  • Security & legal

    Permissions Policy

    Permissions Policy lets a document control relevant browser-feature use for itself and embedded content through the supported policy arrangement. Feature support varies. It is separate from a person granting a browser permission, so review compatibility, required features and embedded services before treating the policy as a complete access decision.

    Also called: Permissions-Policy

  • Websites & hosting

    Persistent storage

    Persistent storage is a browser storage mode intended to protect applicable data from automatic eviction under the relevant rules. A request for it can be declined. It does not create a backup or prevent the user from deleting data, so important records still need an appropriate recovery arrangement.

  • Websites & hosting

    Persistent volume

    A persistent volume is a storage resource used through a platform’s supported arrangement to retain data separately from a particular application runtime. Its lifecycle and access depend on the implementation. Review deletion, replacement and recovery behaviour; persistent storage does not mean an independent backup exists or that information can never be lost.

  • Security & legal

    Personal data

    Personal data concerns an identified or identifiable individual under the applicable law. It can extend beyond a name or email address. A Jersey business should review the information its website and suppliers actually handle, then connect collection, access and retention decisions to the relevant purpose.

    Also called: personal information

  • Security & legal

    Phishing

    Phishing is a deceptive attempt to make someone reveal information, transfer money or take another harmful action by impersonating a trusted person or service.

    Also called: phishing email

  • AI & new tech

    PHP

    PHP is a scripting language commonly used for server-side web development. The hosting environment runs the relevant application code and returns its output to the browser. Record the application’s supported PHP version and maintenance responsibility rather than assuming every hosting package supports the same arrangement.

    Also called: PHP Hypertext Preprocessor

  • Design & content

    Picture element

    The HTML picture element groups alternative image sources with an img element. It lets the browser choose an appropriate source using the supplied conditions, with the img source available as a fallback. A maintainer should verify the actual selection and fallback rather than assume that merely wrapping an image adds useful alternatives.

    Also called: HTML picture element

  • Websites & hosting

    Ping

    Ping is a diagnostic tool that commonly sends ICMP echo requests and reports received replies and round-trip times. It checks a particular form of connectivity. A reply does not verify a website task, while no reply can reflect filtering or other conditions rather than prove the entire destination service is unavailable.

  • Websites & hosting

    Plugin

    A plugin adds functionality to an existing software system. In WordPress it might add a form, shop or optimisation feature. Every extra plugin needs a purpose, maintenance and compatibility checks. Installing more plugins is not a substitute for understanding the site’s real customer requirements.

    Also called: WordPress plugin

  • Design & content

    PNG

    PNG stands for Portable Network Graphics, a raster image format using lossless compression and supporting transparency. It is useful for some graphics and screenshots, but the appropriate website export depends on the image. A Jersey business should check dimensions, appearance and download size; lossless storage does not make every PNG an efficient public asset.

  • AI & new tech

    Polling

    Polling repeatedly asks a service whether information has changed or a task has completed. It differs from waiting for an event notification such as a webhook. Choose an appropriate interval and respect provider limits, especially when many visitors might trigger the same repeated checks.

    Also called: periodic polling

  • AI & new tech

    Polyfill

    A polyfill supplies an implementation of a feature in an environment where it is not natively available. It differs from rewriting code syntax during a build. Review the supported browser targets, actual feature needs and delivered behaviour before adding compatibility code to a website.

  • Domains & email

    POP3

    POP3, or Post Office Protocol version 3, lets a mail client retrieve messages from a server maildrop. Retention and deletion depend on the relevant client and server handling. Review what remains on the server and which device holds downloaded messages before changing devices or assuming the whole mailbox is synchronised.

    Also called: Post Office Protocol

  • Websites & hosting

    Popstate event

    The popstate event reports relevant active session-history entry changes during navigation. Calling pushState or replaceState alone does not fire it. Review the actual rendering and restoration route with the maintainer, so an event listener is connected to the intended customer view rather than treated as proof of complete Back-button behaviour.

    Also called: popstate

  • Websites & hosting

    Port

    In networking, a port is a numbered communication endpoint used to distinguish services on a host. For example, HTTPS commonly uses port 443. Ask the responsible provider which connections are required and who maintains the configuration; a port number alone does not describe the safety of a service.

    Also called: network port

  • Websites & hosting

    POST request

    POST is an HTTP method that submits data to a resource for processing. Forms and API operations may use it, depending on the application. The method alone does not prove that a submission is valid, private or safely repeatable; the receiving system still needs appropriate checks.

    Also called: HTTP POST

  • Online selling

    Pre-order

    A pre-order lets a customer order an item before it is ready for the usual sale or delivery arrangement. Payment and availability rules depend on the provider and configuration. Explain the expected supply arrangement accurately and review how changes or cancellations are handled in the actual shop.

    Also called: preorder

  • Security & legal

    Preflight request

    A CORS preflight request is an OPTIONS request the browser sends for relevant cross-origin requests to check permitted methods and headers. It is part of the browser’s resource-sharing process. Review the actual exchange and service configuration instead of assuming every cross-origin request has an identical preliminary step.

    Also called: CORS preflight

  • AI & new tech

    Prepared statement

    A prepared statement sets up a database statement for later execution, often with parameters supplied separately. Supported details depend on the database and client library. Ask the developer to use appropriate parameter handling and current security guidance; the name alone does not prove all database access is safe.

    Also called: parameterised statement

  • Websites & hosting

    Prerendering

    Prerendering generates page content before a visitor requests it, often during a website build. It can suit information pages that change through publishing. An updated source file still needs a new build and release before the served page necessarily reflects the change.

    Also called: static rendering, static generation

  • Design & content

    Prevent default

    The browser event method preventDefault requests cancellation of a cancelable event’s default action, such as link navigation. It does not itself stop propagation, and a passive listener cannot use it to cancel that action. For a Jersey business, ask what behaviour is being changed, why the feature needs it and how customers complete the intended task afterwards.

    Also called: preventDefault()

  • AI & new tech

    Primary key

    A primary key identifies a row in a database table through a chosen column or combination of columns. In PostgreSQL, its values are unique and not null. A Jersey business should understand which identifier its application actually uses; a row’s identity is separate from a customer-facing name, access permission or a generated number alone.

  • AI & new tech

    Primitive value

    A JavaScript primitive value belongs to one of the non-Object types, which define immutable values. That technical category needs a clear role in the feature. Ask which value and receiving representation the task uses, rather than expand immutability of a primitive into proof that a whole business record cannot change.

  • Security & legal

    Privacy policy

    A privacy policy or notice explains how an organisation handles personal information, including its purposes, relevant sharing, retention and individual rights.

    Also called: privacy notice

  • Websites & hosting

    Private IP address

    A private IP address belongs to address space reserved for use within private network arrangements, such as the IPv4 ranges described in RFC 1918. It does not have the same globally unique public-routing role. Review the actual gateway and access controls rather than treating the word private as proof of encryption or security.

  • Online selling

    Product availability attribute

    A product availability attribute describes the submitted offer’s availability, such as in stock, out of stock, preorder or backorder under the destination’s rules. Keep it consistent with the website and ordering process. A stored quantity and an offer available for a particular customer destination are related but separate observations.

    Also called: Product availability field

  • Online selling

    Product brand attribute

    A product brand attribute declares the brand of the actual product in submitted catalogue data. It is separate from the retailer’s website branding. Review manufacturer information and the destination’s requirements before filling it; a shop should not describe another manufacturer’s product as its own brand merely because it sells the item.

    Also called: Product brand field

  • Online selling

    Product bundle

    A product bundle groups multiple products into one offer. Its contents, price and stock handling depend on the shop configuration. Review what the customer receives and how the component quantities change when an order is accepted, amended or returned.

  • Online selling

    Product condition attribute

    A product condition attribute describes the item’s condition in catalogue data, such as new, refurbished or used under the service’s definitions. Match the actual offer and product page. It is separate from stock availability and does not replace explaining relevant product details to the customer.

    Also called: Product condition field

  • Online selling

    Product custom label

    A product custom label is a merchant-defined value used to organise supported campaign filtering, reporting or bidding. In Google Merchant Center, these labels are separate from customer-visible product descriptions. Agree what each label means and who maintains it; a campaign grouping does not change the product’s actual identity or availability.

    Also called: Product feed custom label

  • Online selling

    Product data ID

    A product data ID uniquely identifies a submitted product in a catalogue or merchant service. In Google Merchant Center, the id attribute serves this role and can use an appropriate SKU. Keep the value stable through updates and distinguish it from a group identifier or manufacturer-assigned product number.

    Also called: Merchant product ID

  • Online selling

    Product feed

    A product feed supplies structured information about products to another system, such as a merchant or shopping service.

  • Online selling

    Product option

    A product option is a choice offered for a product, such as size or colour. Its values can combine to create product variants. Make the choices understandable and distinguish a selection that changes the stocked item from a personalisation instruction handled separately by staff.

  • Online selling

    Product type attribute

    The product type attribute lets a merchant supply their own product classification in Google Merchant Center. It differs from Google’s predefined product category. Keep the hierarchy meaningful and consistent with the actual catalogue. Document which field the integration uses instead of assuming every platform’s category setting maps to the same destination attribute.

    Also called: product_type

  • AI & new tech

    Programming language

    A programming language is a structured way to express instructions that software can process. Website projects can use different languages for browser behaviour, server work and supporting tools. A Jersey business should ask how the chosen languages serve its features, who maintains the code and how another developer can take over.

  • Design & content

    Progress indicator

    A progress indicator communicates that work is underway and, when known, how much is complete. Some operations have an unknown duration. Do not invent a percentage to make a website look reassuring; show a truthful state and explain how the user learns whether the task succeeds.

  • Design & content

    Progressive disclosure

    Progressive disclosure presents the main choices first and reveals secondary detail or advanced options when needed. It can reduce initial complexity, but important information still needs to be findable. Review the actual task and audience so hiding a detail does not make an essential decision or instruction harder to understand.

  • Design & content

    Progressive enhancement

    Progressive enhancement starts with a useful basic experience and adds capabilities when the browser supports them. It helps choose dependencies deliberately. For a business website, identify which information and contact routes should remain usable if an optional script or advanced feature is unavailable.

    Also called: enhancement approach

  • Design & content

    Progressive JPEG

    Progressive JPEG organises image rendering into successive scans, allowing a rough version to become clearer as more information arrives. It is a JPEG encoding choice rather than a separate replacement format. Check the actual file and loading behaviour; a progressive export does not remove the need to choose appropriate dimensions and visual quality.

  • AI & new tech

    Progressive web app

    A progressive web app uses web technologies while adding app-like capabilities where supported, such as installation, offline features or notifications. The available experience depends on the browser, device and implementation. A Jersey business should choose those features for a real customer task and test how the application behaves when connectivity changes.

    Also called: PWA

  • AI & new tech

    Promise

    A JavaScript Promise represents the eventual completion or failure of an asynchronous operation and its value or reason. It lets code handle an outcome that may arrive later. For a Jersey business, identify which operation the Promise represents and review its waiting, result and failure states; fulfillment is a technical outcome rather than a guarantee that the customer’s task succeeded.

    Also called: JavaScript Promise

  • AI & new tech

    Promise all

    Promise.all returns a Promise that fulfills with the input fulfillment values when every input fulfills, or rejects on an input rejection. It supports a combined result when the task needs all outcomes. Agree which information is essential and how an unavailable dependency affects the customer’s next step.

    Also called: Promise.all()

  • AI & new tech

    Promise all settled

    Promise.allSettled returns a Promise that fulfills after the inputs settle, with a description of each outcome. That includes rejections, so completion of the collection is separate from every operation succeeding. Review which results the business feature can use and how unavailable parts are explained to the customer.

    Also called: Promise.allSettled()

  • AI & new tech

    Promise any

    Promise.any returns the first input fulfillment value and rejects if no input fulfills. It differs from race, which uses the first settlement, including rejection. A fulfilled combined result does not automatically cancel remaining operations. Agree why one result is sufficient and review the actual task and remaining work.

    Also called: Promise.any()

  • AI & new tech

    Promise catch

    The Promise catch method schedules a handler for rejection and returns another Promise. It helps code handle a failed operation, while useful customer feedback still needs design and review. Demonstrate the actual failure route and next action instead of infer a complete support experience from the existence of an error handler.

    Also called: Promise.catch()

  • AI & new tech

    Promise finally

    The Promise finally method schedules handling after a Promise settles, whether fulfilled or rejected, and is commonly used for cleanup. Ending a waiting indicator through cleanup should not be interpreted as proof of success. Review the actual outcome and message separately so the customer understands what happened.

    Also called: Promise.finally()

  • AI & new tech

    Promise race

    Promise.race returns a Promise that settles with the first input to settle, whether fulfilled or rejected. Settling the combined result does not cancel the other operations. Have the maintainer explain the task’s intended winner and how remaining work is managed, rather than equate a race result with cancellation.

    Also called: Promise.race()

  • AI & new tech

    Promise then

    The Promise then method schedules handlers for fulfillment or rejection and returns a new Promise whose outcome follows the relevant handler’s result. It supports connecting later work to an earlier outcome. Review what each step establishes for the customer instead of assume a sequence of handlers automatically proves the business task succeeded.

    Also called: Promise.then()

  • AI & new tech

    Prompt

    A prompt is the input or instruction given to an AI system. It can state the task, audience, relevant context and desired format. Clear instructions can help produce a useful draft, but cannot guarantee accuracy. A Jersey business should still check names, dates, prices and local legal claims.

    Also called: AI prompt

  • AI & new tech

    Prompt injection

    Prompt injection happens when supplied content causes a language-model application to follow unintended instructions. It may come through a direct message or outside material, such as a document the system retrieves. A Jersey business should review what information and actions the application can access, how boundaries are enforced and how suspicious inputs are handled.

  • Design & content

    Prototype

    A prototype is a representation of a proposed product or service used to explore and test ideas. It may be a sketch, a clickable model or a coded interaction. For a Jersey website, agree what it demonstrates, what is simulated and which production features still need implementation and verification.

    Also called: interactive prototype

  • Websites & hosting

    Proxy server

    A proxy server acts as an intermediary for requests and responses. Depending on its purpose, it may forward requests, serve cached content or apply processing. Record where it sits in the website or network setup so support staff understand which system can affect the response.

    Also called: proxy

  • Security & legal

    Pseudonymisation

    Pseudonymisation separates identifying information so records need additional information to be attributed to a person. It is different from making data anonymous. A Jersey business still needs appropriate handling of the records and the separate identifying information; replacing a name with a code does not erase those responsibilities.

    Public IP address

    A public IP address supports a globally unique addressing role for Internet connectivity, subject to actual routing and service configuration. It is distinct from reserved private address space. Having such an address does not automatically expose every application or prove that a website is reachable through the required name and protocol.

    Pull request

    A pull request proposes bringing changes from one branch into another through a repository hosting service’s review process. It can show the difference and automated checks. Approval should relate to the actual change, and merging may trigger deployment depending on the project’s configuration.

    Push API

    The Push API lets a supported web application receive server-sent messages through a push service, including when its page is not in the foreground. It uses a service worker and a maintained subscription. A Jersey business should check the complete delivery and notification journey; creating a subscription does not prove that every message reaches or alerts a customer.

    Push endpoint

    A push endpoint is the URL associated with a particular push subscription. The application server uses it in the supported push-delivery arrangement. Treat it as subscription information that needs appropriate protection rather than a public website link. It differs from the page a customer should open after interacting with a notification.

    Push subscription

    A push subscription supplies the endpoint and relevant encryption information used to send messages to a subscribed web application. It is created through a supported browser push arrangement. Keep the server’s record and unsubscribe handling maintained; a subscription record is separate from proof that a particular notification was displayed or read.

    Also called: Web push subscription

    Python

    Python is a programming language used for tasks including application development, scripting and automation. Its role in a website project depends on the implementation. Ask which processes use it, which environment they require and who maintains the relevant code and dependencies.
