  • Websites & hosting

    IaaS

IaaS means Infrastructure as a Service. It supplies infrastructure resources such as computing, storage and networking through a service arrangement. The customer still has responsibilities for the workload and its configuration. Review the actual division of work, permissions and recovery needs before assuming that cloud infrastructure includes complete application management.

Also called: Infrastructure as a Service

    IANA time zone database

The IANA time zone database maintains code and data describing local-time history for representative locations. It is updated as relevant boundaries, UTC offsets and daylight-saving rules change. Identify how the actual software receives maintained data, then review representative scheduling output rather than assume a stored zone label establishes every future rule.

    Also called: tz database, zoneinfo

  • AI & new tech

    Idempotency

Idempotency means repeating an operation has the same intended effect as performing it once. In an API, supported request identifiers or keys can help prevent retries creating duplicate work. The exact rules depend on the service and operation. A Jersey business should verify both retry behaviour and the resulting record rather than assume every repeated request is safe.

    Also called: idempotent request

  • Security & legal

    Identity provider

An identity provider authenticates users and supplies identity information through a supported connection to applications. It may sit at the centre of a single sign-on arrangement. Record its business owner, connected services and recovery process, since several staff tools can depend on the same sign-in service.

    Also called: IdP

  • Websites & hosting

    If-Match header

The If-Match request header makes an HTTP operation conditional on a matching entity tag. It uses strong ETag comparison; a failed condition can produce a 412 response. This can support a version-aware editing workflow, but merely sending the header does not establish correct application handling or user permissions.

    Also called: If-Match

  • Websites & hosting

    If-Modified-Since header

The If-Modified-Since header makes a GET or HEAD request conditional on content having changed after a supplied date. An unchanged representation can receive a 304 response without a body. It is useful for date-based cache validation; it does not demonstrate that every application record or website feature is current.

    Also called: If-Modified-Since

  • Websites & hosting

    If-None-Match header

The If-None-Match request header applies an HTTP condition based on entity tags not matching. For GET or HEAD, a failed condition can produce 304 Not Modified, allowing the stored representation to be used. Its handling differs for operations that change data, so review the actual method and endpoint.

    Also called: If-None-Match

  • Websites & hosting

    If-Unmodified-Since header

The If-Unmodified-Since request header asks for an HTTP operation only if the relevant resource has not changed after the supplied date. A failed condition can receive 412 Precondition Failed. Ask the maintainer how the endpoint evaluates the date and explains a failed check to the person using the application.

    Also called: If-Unmodified-Since

  • Websites & hosting

    Iframe

An iframe is an HTML element that embeds another browsing context within a page, often displaying a document from a separate service. The embedded content has its own behaviour and relevant restrictions. Review its purpose, accessibility and supported security arrangement instead of assuming it inherits every property of the surrounding website.

    Also called: inline frame

  • Design & content

    Image bit depth

Image bit depth describes how many bits represent a defined part of the image’s colour data. Its exact meaning depends on the format and mode: PNG can describe bits per sample or per palette index, rather than total bits per pixel. Ask which quantity a tool reports before comparing numbers as though they measured the same thing.

    Also called: Image colour depth

  • Design & content

    Image decoding hint

An image decoding hint tells the browser a preference about decoding an image in relation to other content updates. The img decoding attribute supports this hint. It is separate from downloading the image and does not by itself prevent an empty image area during loading. Review the actual behaviour when changing dynamically inserted images.

    Also called: Image decoding attribute

  • Design & content

    Image fetch priority

Image fetch priority gives the browser a hint about fetching an image relative to other images. The img fetchpriority attribute can express high, low or automatic priority. It is a hint, rather than a guarantee of load order or speed. Identify the important image and check measured behaviour before changing several priorities together.

    Also called: Image fetchpriority attribute

  • SEO

    Image sitemap

An image sitemap supplies image information through a sitemap extension to help a search engine discover relevant images. Review the actual image URLs and their access alongside the pages using them. This complements image presentation and alternatives; it does not guarantee image indexing or rankings.

  • Design & content

    Image sizes attribute

An image sizes attribute describes the expected layout width used when choosing among srcset candidates with width descriptors. It can express different widths for different conditions. It does not set the CSS width of the image itself. Keep the description aligned with the real layout and inspect the browser’s selected source at representative screen sizes.

    Also called: Image sizes

  • Design & content

    Image srcset attribute

An image srcset attribute supplies candidate image sources with width or pixel-density descriptors. The browser uses the relevant information to select a source. It is separate from the CSS layout rule. Check that each candidate exists, its descriptor is correct and the selected file suits the actual display rather than assuming more candidates always improve delivery.

    Also called: srcset

  • Domains & email

    IMAP

IMAP, or Internet Message Access Protocol, lets a mail client access and manage messages held on a server. It supports mailbox operations and synchronisation according to the implementation. Review the actual client settings and recovery arrangement; a synchronised deletion is different from an independent backup copy.

Also called: Internet Message Access Protocol

  • Analytics

    Impressions

Impressions count how often a result, advert or piece of content was shown according to the platform’s rules. They are different from unique people and clicks. High impressions with few enquiries may call for a closer look at relevance, wording and the next step, rather than a larger traffic target.

  • Websites & hosting

    IndexedDB

IndexedDB is a browser API for storing structured data and accessing it through indexes and transactions. It supports asynchronous operations. Browser-held records still depend on storage availability and the application’s handling, so identify any synchronisation and recovery process before treating a local record as a dependable shared business record.

  • SEO

    Indexing

Indexing is the process by which a search engine analyses content and may store information for use in search results.

    Also called: search indexing

  • Design & content

    Information architecture

Information architecture is the organisation, structure and labelling of a website’s content and functions. It helps establish how information relates and where people can find it. Navigation is one way that structure appears in the interface. A Jersey business should review real customer tasks, content relationships and clear labels before choosing the menu’s visual design.

    Also called: IA

  • Design & content

    Inline video playback

Inline video playback shows a video within its element’s playback area. HTML’s playsinline attribute indicates this intended behaviour; omitting it does not mean every browser always uses fullscreen. Review the actual device and page controls rather than infer the customer experience solely from the presence or absence of the attribute.

    Also called: Playsinline

  • Design & content

    innerHTML

The browser innerHTML property reads or replaces the markup inside an element. Setting it interprets the supplied value as HTML, so it needs appropriate handling when content comes from another source. For a Jersey business, ask whether the feature needs markup or plain text, review the input-handling design and inspect the resulting content and controls before accepting the change.

    Also called: Element.innerHTML

  • Design & content

    innerText

The browser innerText property represents rendered text within an element and its descendants, taking the displayed appearance into account. It differs from textContent, which has different collection behaviour. Ask which representation the feature needs, then inspect the actual wording and layout instead of assuming the two properties provide interchangeable results for every customer task.

    Also called: HTMLElement.innerText

  • Design & content

    Input event

The input event signals a value change resulting directly from user action on a supported editable control. It differs from a change event’s timing, and programmatic value assignment does not itself fire input. Review when the feature updates its feedback and check the actual control types used in the customer task.

    Also called: input browser event

  • Design & content

    Input mode

The HTML inputmode attribute suggests the kind of entry expected so a browser can offer a suitable virtual keyboard. It does not impose validation requirements. Choose guidance appropriate to the field’s actual purpose, inspect supported device behaviour and keep the information rules separate from the keyboard presented to the visitor.

    Also called: inputmode

  • Design & content

    Input pattern

The HTML pattern attribute supplies a regular-expression constraint for supported input types, matching the entire value when applicable. A matching format does not verify the underlying information. Use a rule the business can explain, provide understandable guidance and review relevant normal and correction cases rather than accept a restrictive pattern without a task-based reason.

    Also called: pattern attribute

  • Security & legal

    Input validation

Input validation checks whether supplied information meets the application’s expected rules, including its format and meaning for the operation. Browser checks can help visitors correct entries, while receiving systems must check submitted data too. For a Jersey website, agree the accepted values, useful feedback and receiving decisions; passing a validation rule does not establish identity, permission or delivery.

    Also called: form validation

  • Websites & hosting

    Installing service worker

An installing service worker is the worker exposed through a registration’s installing property during installation. It is a lifecycle stage, separate from waiting or activation. When reviewing an update, check whether installation succeeded and which version controls the page rather than interpret a downloaded script as a completed application change.

  • AI & new tech

    Integer

An integer is a whole-number value without a fractional part. Programming languages have different representations and limits; JavaScript Number uses floating-point storage and has a defined safe-integer range. For a Jersey website, agree the permitted quantity, bounds and receiving format before accepting a whole-number check as evidence that the value suits the business task.

    Also called: whole number

  • Websites & hosting

    Integration testing

Integration testing checks whether software components work together as intended. It examines connections beyond an isolated unit, such as an application exchanging data with another component. A Jersey business should ask what was included, which responses were simulated and how the checks relate to its actual enquiry, booking or other customer task.

    Also called: integration test

  • Design & content

    Internationalisation

Internationalisation is designing and developing a product so it can be adapted for audiences with different language, regional and cultural requirements. It prepares the system for localisation rather than translating all content itself. A Jersey business should define the intended audience and review text handling, formats and customer tasks before approving a claim that the website supports multiple markets.

    Also called: Internationalization, i18n

  • AI & new tech

    Interpreter

An interpreter processes program instructions as part of running software. Language implementations can combine interpretation and compilation techniques. For a website handover, ask which runtime and tools the actual application requires instead of assuming one term describes every stage of code execution.

  • Websites & hosting

    Intersection disconnect

The Intersection Observer disconnect method stops watching all its targets for intersection changes. It is broader than unobserving a particular element. Review how the implementation manages the feature’s lifecycle, and distinguish stopping observation from undoing earlier requests or other work the feature may already have performed.

    Also called: IntersectionObserver.disconnect()

  • Websites & hosting

    Intersection observe

The Intersection Observer observe method adds an element to its watched target set. One observer can watch multiple targets under its shared configuration, and initial observation also generates relevant reporting. Review the actual target set and first result rather than assume every callback proves the visitor scrolled past or read the content.

    Also called: IntersectionObserver.observe()

  • Websites & hosting

    Intersection Observer

Intersection Observer reports configured changes in the geometric intersection between a target element and a root element or viewport. Code can use those reports to trigger relevant work, such as loading nearby content. For a Jersey business, review the trigger and customer outcome; an intersection report does not by itself establish that somebody read, understood or acted on the content.

  • Websites & hosting

    Intersection ratio

An Intersection Observer entry’s intersectionRatio expresses intersection area relative to the target’s bounds as a value from zero to one. It describes geometry rather than reading, understanding or a business action. Identify the actual target and root, and review what the feature does with the reported value before interpreting it in customer-facing reports.

    Also called: intersectionRatio

  • Websites & hosting

    Intersection root

An Intersection Observer root supplies the bounds used as the observation context for its targets; a null root uses the document viewport. It is a geometric configuration rather than a claim about customer attention. Have the maintainer identify the actual context, then review the feature’s trigger and resulting content in that placement.

    Also called: IntersectionObserver.root

  • Websites & hosting

    Intersection root margin

Intersection Observer rootMargin adjusts the root’s bounds before testing intersection, using a margin-style value. It changes the observation calculation rather than directly add visible page spacing. Review the intended trigger with the maintainer and keep its geometric meaning separate from evidence that a customer saw or understood the content.

    Also called: rootMargin

  • Websites & hosting

    Intersection state

An Intersection Observer entry’s isIntersecting value indicates whether the target intersects the observer’s root. It supports interpreting the relevant intersection transition. Keep this geometric state separate from a claim that a visitor read the target, then inspect the resulting feature action and its actual outcome.

    Also called: isIntersecting

  • Websites & hosting

    Intersection thresholds

Intersection Observer thresholds are configured intersection ratios used for relevant change notifications. The thresholds property returns the observer’s list, including a single-value list when one threshold was supplied. Agree what crossing the chosen condition should trigger, then inspect the actual result instead of infer customer engagement from the configured number.

    Also called: IntersectionObserver.thresholds

  • Websites & hosting

    Intersection unobserve

The Intersection Observer unobserve method stops watching a specified target element. It changes the observation lifecycle rather than reverse work that a previous notification started. Have the maintainer explain why that target is no longer needed and review the actual customer route when content is replaced or removed.

    Also called: IntersectionObserver.unobserve()

  • Design & content

    Intl.Collator

Intl.Collator provides JavaScript language-sensitive string comparison. The chosen locale and options can affect the ordering used for lists or comparisons. Review representative names and the intended task; a comparison result is separate from proving that two customer records identify the same person or that a business’s complete search arrangement is correct.

    Also called: Intl Collator

  • Design & content

    Intl.DateTimeFormat

Intl.DateTimeFormat is a JavaScript interface for language-sensitive date and time presentation. Locale and relevant options affect the output. Review the actual zone configuration and value meaning alongside its readable format; a correctly formatted date is separate from verifying that the stored booking represents the intended appointment.

    Also called: Intl DateTimeFormat

  • Design & content

    Intl.NumberFormat

Intl.NumberFormat is a JavaScript interface for language-sensitive number presentation. Its options can specify styles such as currency display for an underlying numeric value. Formatting is separate from converting currency or validating the amount’s business meaning. Compare representative quantities and displayed output under the actual supported locale and chosen options.

    Also called: Intl NumberFormat

  • Design & content

    Intl.PluralRules

Intl.PluralRules provides JavaScript support for language-specific plural categories and related rules, including relevant cardinal or ordinal arrangements. It is separate from supplying a complete translated sentence. Have content reviewers check the actual messages and representative quantities rather than assume selecting a category proves that every phrase is grammatical and communicates the intended meaning.

    Also called: Intl PluralRules

  • Design & content

    Intl.RelativeTimeFormat

Intl.RelativeTimeFormat provides JavaScript formatting of relative-time values using supported language-sensitive presentation, such as describing an interval relative to now. It formats the supplied value and unit rather than establish the underlying event record. Keep important exact dates available where the customer task requires them and review the actual wording produced.

    Also called: Intl RelativeTimeFormat

  • Design & content

    Intl.Segmenter

Intl.Segmenter provides JavaScript locale-sensitive text segmentation into units such as graphemes, words or sentences. It is a supported processing tool rather than a translation or content-approval service. Review the actual selected granularity and representative text when using it for limits or text handling in a customer-facing application.

    Also called: Intl Segmenter

  • Design & content

    Intrinsic image width

Intrinsic image width is the image’s natural width as reported by the browser. The naturalWidth property reports a density-corrected width in CSS pixels, so it should not always be treated as the raw pixel width stored in the original file. Compare the source information and displayed box when investigating a blurry or oversized image.

    Also called: Natural image width

  • Domains & email

    IP address

An IP address identifies a network interface for internet communication. Websites and email systems use addresses behind the scenes, while DNS helps connect readable names to services. A shared hosting server can serve several domains, so owning a domain does not imply having a dedicated IP address.

  • Websites & hosting

    IPv4

IPv4 is a version of the Internet Protocol used to address and move data across networks. Its addresses commonly appear as four numbers separated by dots. A website owner should ask the hosting provider which address arrangements are supported and avoid changing DNS records from a guessed address.

  • Websites & hosting

    IPv6

IPv6 is a version of the Internet Protocol with a much larger address space than IPv4. Hosting and network support determine how it is used for a website. Ask the provider about the actual configuration and verify the relevant connection paths when changing address records.

  • Design & content

    ISO 8601

ISO 8601 is a standard for representing date and time information, including a year-month-day date arrangement. It helps distinguish representations from ambiguous local numeric conventions. Follow the actual exchange specification and review the value’s meaning; a date written in a recognised format does not by itself identify every appointment’s required time-zone context.

Also called: ISO date and time format

  • Websites & hosting

    ISP

An ISP, or Internet Service Provider, supplies internet access and may offer other services. It is one part of the path between a customer and a website. When investigating a connection problem, distinguish the access provider, local network, hosting service and any external application involved.

    Also called: Internet Service Provider

  • Online selling

    Item group ID

An item group ID links related product variants in a destination service’s product data. It is separate from the unique identifier for an individual variant. Review which items form the group and how their distinguishing attributes are supplied; grouping unrelated products can make the catalogue information misleading.

    Also called: item_group_id

  • Analytics

    Item scoped custom dimension

An item-scoped custom dimension concerns additional information supplied in the items array of an ecommerce event. Its scope describes item data, rather than a whole customer journey. Review the actual collected values and supported reporting surface before promising a product breakdown, and keep the field’s purpose documented for the shop maintainer.

Also called: GA4 item scoped dimension
