  • AI & new tech

    SaaS

    SaaS means software as a service: software supplied through an ongoing service, often accessed online and charged by subscription. Check what the plan includes, where your data is held, export options and cancellation arrangements. A convenient monthly tool can still create an awkward dependency if you cannot recover your information.

    Also called: software as a service

  • Online selling

    Sale price attribute

    A sale price attribute supplies the product’s price during a sale to a destination service. It should reflect the applicable website offer and required format. It is separate from a guaranteed sale badge or promotion display: review the service’s eligibility rules and resulting product information before promising a particular presentation.

    Also called: sale_price

  • Security & legal

    Same-origin policy

    The same-origin policy restricts certain interactions between content from different web origins. It helps separate browser contexts and their information. Cross-origin writes, embedding and reading have different rules, so this policy should not be treated as an all-purpose block on every request or as replacement authentication.

  • Websites & hosting

    Sandbox

    A sandbox is an isolated or constrained environment used to try operations with limits appropriate to the system. The word does not guarantee complete isolation. Check connected services, credentials and test information before assuming an experimental website cannot affect real customers or orders.

  • SEO

    Schema markup

    Schema markup is structured information added to a web page to describe things such as a business, article, product or definition using a recognised vocabulary.

    Also called: structured data, Schema.org

  • Websites & hosting

    SCP

    SCP commonly refers to a tool for copying files between hosts. Current OpenSSH scp documentation describes using SFTP over SSH by default, with a separate legacy protocol option. Record the actual tool and configuration rather than infer one universal transfer protocol from the command name, then verify the source, destination and received content.

    Also called: Secure copy

  • Design & content

    Screen media type

    The CSS screen media type is intended primarily for screen presentation. A media condition can combine this type with relevant supported features. Keep screen-specific presentation separate from the intended print document, then review each actual result; a screen rule alone does not establish that content will print with the same dimensions, controls or reading order.

    Also called: CSS screen media

  • Design & content

    Screen reader

    A screen reader is assistive technology that presents interface information through speech or braille.

    Also called: screen-reading software

  • AI & new tech

    SDK

    An SDK is a software development kit providing tools or libraries for building against a platform. It can help implement a supported integration, but does not supply the business workflow automatically. Review the provider’s documentation, version compatibility and maintenance responsibility before adding it to a website.

    Also called: software development kit

  • SEO

    Search intent

    Search intent is the purpose behind a person’s search, such as learning what something means, finding a business or comparing options before buying.

    Also called: user intent, searcher intent

  • AI & new tech

    Search reranking

    Search reranking applies a further relevance assessment to an initial set of search results and changes their order. It is separate from retrieving the initial candidates. Review the actual ranking method and examples of its results. A passage promoted by a reranker still requires checks for correctness, currency and permitted use.

    Also called: Reranking

  • SEO

    Search snippet

    A search snippet is the descriptive text shown with a result to help a person understand its relevance. Google can generate it from page content and may use a meta description when appropriate. Review the actual page explanation and avoid assuming the submitted description will appear unchanged for every query.

    Also called: result snippet

  • Security & legal

    Secure context

    A secure context is a browser environment meeting defined authentication and confidentiality requirements for access to certain web capabilities. HTTPS commonly provides this on a public website, with additional context rules. Availability of a capability in a secure context does not establish that the whole application is secure.

  • Security & legal

    Security patch

    A security patch is a software change intended to address a security problem. Compatibility and deployment still need review. Identify who maintains the website and its components, how relevant updates are assessed and how the released result is checked after a change.

    Also called: patching

  • Design & content

    Select control

    The HTML select element provides a menu of options. Agree what each option means and how it maps to the business’s received information. Review actual choices, clear labelling and relevant supported interaction; having a menu does not establish that its options cover the customer’s task or route the enquiry correctly.

    Also called: select element

  • Design & content

    Semantic HTML

    Semantic HTML uses elements according to their meaning, such as headings for sections and buttons for actions. It helps communicate document structure beyond visual styling. A clear content outline and appropriate native controls are a stronger starting point than adding meaning only through decoration.

    Also called: semantic markup

  • Security & legal

    Semantic validation

    Semantic validation checks whether information makes sense for the intended operation, including relevant relationships between fields. Define the actual business rules with the maintainer and review representative values. A suitable format is insufficient evidence of an acceptable request, so keep meaningful receiving decisions explicit in the feature handover.

  • Websites & hosting

    Semantic versioning

    Semantic versioning uses a major, minor and patch version pattern to communicate types of software change under its rules. A version label helps interpret an update but does not prove it is safe for a particular project. Review compatibility and the relevant release notes before upgrading.

    Also called: SemVer

  • SEO

    SEO

    SEO means search engine optimisation: work that helps search engines understand your website and helps relevant people find it in unpaid search results.

    Also called: search engine optimisation, organic search optimisation

  • AI & new tech

    Serialization

    Serialization converts an object or data structure into a representation suitable for transmission or storage, such as structured text. The chosen format and conversion rules determine what is represented. For a Jersey website, agree the included fields, supported values and receiving contract, then inspect the actual output; a serialized representation does not establish delivery, trusted content or completed storage.

    Also called: serialisation

  • SEO

    SERP

    SERP stands for search engine results page: the page shown after a search. It can contain unpaid listings, adverts, maps and other features. Results vary with the query and context. Compare the relevant Jersey search and customer intent rather than reporting one screenshot as a permanent ranking.

    Also called: search engine results page

  • AI & new tech

    Server-sent events

    Server-sent events let a server push event data to a web page through an ongoing HTTP-based connection. The event stream carries updates from server to client, unlike a two-way WebSocket session. The application still needs suitable access, error handling and current-state checks for the actual feature it supports.

    Also called: SSE

  • Websites & hosting

    Server-side rendering

    Server-side rendering generates page HTML on a server in response to a request. It can suit content that changes by visitor or needs current data. The application still needs sensible caching, error handling and performance checks; the rendering method alone does not guarantee a good website.

    Also called: SSR

  • Security & legal

    Server-side validation

    Server-side validation checks submitted information in the receiving application or service. Browser checks cannot replace it. Ask which field and business rules the receiver enforces and inspect a relevant rejected request in the approved review environment, including the customer feedback and receiving state before relying on a usable enquiry or stored record.

  • Websites & hosting

    Serverless

    Serverless describes services where the provider manages much of the underlying server operation while developers deploy functions or applications. Servers still exist. The business needs to understand usage limits, pricing arrangements, data handling and who maintains the application running on the managed platform.

    Also called: serverless computing

  • Websites & hosting

    Service level agreement

    A service level agreement records agreed service commitments and how they are measured or handled. Its actual wording matters, including exclusions and remedies. A Jersey business should read the arrangement for its hosting or support service rather than interpreting a general uptime claim as a complete guarantee.

    Also called: SLA

  • AI & new tech

    Service worker

    A service worker is browser-managed code that runs separately from the page and can handle events such as requests for application resources. It can support controlled caching and offline behaviour. A Jersey business should review its scope, update process and customer messages so an older stored response is not mistaken for current information or a completed server action.

    Also called: service worker API

  • Websites & hosting

    Service worker controller

    The service worker controller identifies the active worker controlling the current page, or reports no controller when applicable. It is a useful observation when investigating cached or offline behaviour. Check the actual page and loading conditions; a worker registration elsewhere on the origin does not prove that this page is currently controlled by it.

  • Websites & hosting

    Service worker readiness

    Service worker readiness refers to waiting for the current page’s associated registration to have an active worker. The ready property provides a promise for that condition and can wait indefinitely. It does not prove that every business feature works; keep capability checks and customer-visible verification separate from the worker becoming active.

    Also called: Service worker ready property

  • Websites & hosting

    Service worker scope

    Service worker scope defines the range of website URLs that a service worker registration can control. It is a browser application boundary, separate from the server’s overall hosting configuration. Review the actual registered scope and affected pages when investigating cached content or offline behaviour; a worker does not automatically control every site route.

  • Websites & hosting

    Service worker unregistration

    Service worker unregistration requests removal of a service worker registration through the supported unregister method. Ongoing operations and concurrent registration can affect the result. Ask the maintainer to verify the actual state and related storage handling rather than assume one method result has reset every aspect of the website’s browser data.

    Also called: Service worker unregister

  • Websites & hosting

    Service worker update

    A service worker update checks the registered worker’s script and can install a changed version. The update method is separate from proving that the new worker controls every existing page. Review installation, waiting and activation alongside the application’s cache rules when a business reports that customers still see an earlier version.

  • Analytics

    Session source

    Session source is a Google Analytics traffic-source dimension associated with how a measured session originated under its attribution rules. It differs from the source associated with a user’s first acquisition. Choose the appropriate scope for the question and review tagging before comparing reports that use these different fields.

  • Analytics

    Sessions vs users

    A session groups activity during a visit; a user metric counts users according to the analytics system’s identification and reporting rules. One person can have several sessions. Consent choices, multiple devices and blockers affect measurement, so reported users are not a perfect count of individual Jersey customers.

    Also called: sessions, users

  • Websites & hosting

    sessionStorage

    sessionStorage holds browser key-value information partitioned by origin and tab session. It is distinct from server-side session records. Understand its lifecycle and access before relying on it for a website feature, and do not assume that a browser storage label makes information confidential.

    Also called: session storage

  • Design & content

    Set attribute

    Element.setAttribute() adds or updates a named attribute on an element. Its effect depends on the attribute and element involved. Have the maintainer review the actual input handling and intended behaviour, then inspect the customer-visible result and surrounding controls instead of treating every attribute assignment as an equivalent or complete interface update.

    Also called: Element.setAttribute()

  • Websites & hosting

    SFTP

    SFTP is a file-transfer protocol used over an SSH connection. Compatible tools can transfer and manage remote files within the authorised account’s access. It differs from FTP protected with TLS. A Jersey business should identify the approved source, destination and receiving process, then inspect the transferred result; a successful transfer does not prove a complete website deployment or usable backup.

    Also called: SSH File Transfer Protocol

  • Security & legal

    SHA-256

    SHA-256 is a cryptographic hash algorithm producing a 256-bit digest and is supported by the relevant Web Crypto digest operation. Keep the input and comparison purpose clear. A hash output is separate from encryption or keyed message authentication, so review the complete design before assigning it those wider protection claims.

  • Design & content

    Shadow DOM

    Shadow DOM attaches a separate DOM subtree to a host element to encapsulate a feature’s internal structure and styling. It can help organise reusable browser components, but it is not a strong security boundary. A Jersey business should understand the supported content and styling interface, then review the actual feature’s accessibility, states and maintainability within the complete page.

    Also called: Shadow Document Object Model

  • Design & content

    Shadow host

    A shadow host is the ordinary DOM element to which a shadow DOM tree is attached. It identifies the connection between the component and the surrounding document. Record the actual feature and supported interface when reviewing styling or content changes, rather than assume that every page-level operation reaches all internal nodes.

    Also called: Shadow DOM host

  • Design & content

    Shadow root

    A ShadowRoot is the root node of an attached shadow DOM subtree. It is separate from the host element carrying the tree. Identify both in a technical handover, alongside the visible feature’s purpose; knowing the internal structure does not establish its accessible operation or provide the business with a complete editing process.

    Also called: ShadowRoot

  • Design & content

    Shadow root mode

    A shadow root’s mode identifies its open or closed arrangement. In the supported attachment API, closed mode causes the host’s shadowRoot property to return null, while code may retain the reference returned during attachment. Treat the setting as an encapsulation choice, then review the actual component interface and information-handling process separately.

    Also called: Open and closed shadow roots

  • Websites & hosting

    Shared hosting

    Shared hosting places several customers’ websites on shared server resources through the provider’s arrangement. The actual limits, isolation and support depend on the service. Review the website’s requirements and included responsibilities instead of assuming the label alone determines performance, security or whether a customer task will work.

  • Domains & email

    Shared mailbox

    A shared mailbox allows authorised people to work with a common mailbox, such as a support address. Reading, sending and delegation permissions can be separate. Review staff access, reply identity and responsibility for handling messages so a shared address does not lead to duplicate replies or overlooked enquiries.

  • Online selling

    Shipping from Jersey

    Shipping from Jersey means arranging delivery from the island to a customer’s destination. Charges, customs information and delivery services can vary by product and destination. An online shop should explain available options and likely processes clearly, and check carrier and destination rules before promising a universal delivery price.

    Also called: delivery from Jersey

  • Online selling

    Shipping label

    A shipping label supplies the information used by the carrier for a particular package, such as addresses and a scannable reference. It differs from a packing slip and from proof of delivery. Review the carrier’s supported format, shipment details and eligibility for the actual origin before choosing a platform’s label-purchasing feature.

  • Online selling

    Shipping location group

    A shipping location group brings fulfilment locations together within a supported shipping profile so they share the relevant zones and rates. Different groups can have different arrangements. Review the actual store configuration and mixed-location orders; the group is a platform setting, rather than a guarantee about where every package will be sent from.

  • Online selling

    Shipping profile

    A shipping profile groups shipping rules for particular products and fulfilment locations in a shop platform that supports this arrangement.

  • Online selling

    Shipping rate

    A shipping rate is the charge calculated or offered for shipping an order. It may depend on destination, weight, order value, carrier information or configured rules. Check representative baskets and addresses, including exceptions, and make sure the amount shown matches the intended service and handling arrangement.

  • Online selling

    Shipping zone

    A shipping zone groups destinations for shipping configuration, commonly by countries or regions. The available methods and charges depend on the actual rules. Test representative addresses and exclusions rather than assuming a broad region label proves that every Jersey or overseas destination is supported.

  • Online selling

    Shopping cart

    A shopping cart or basket holds the products and quantities a customer intends to buy before checkout.

    Also called: basket, cart

  • AI & new tech

    Similarity score

    A similarity score describes the strength of a match under a particular comparison method. Its scale and interpretation depend on the system and metric. In vector search it is not a universal probability that an answer is true. Ask the maintainer to explain the actual score and evaluate relevant and misleading matches.

    Also called: Vector similarity score

  • Security & legal

    Single sign-on

    Single sign-on lets a person use one sign-in session to access connected applications, usually through a central identity provider. Each application still needs appropriate permissions and configuration. A Jersey business should understand which services are connected, how staff access is managed, and what happens when the identity service is unavailable.

    Also called: SSO

  • SEO

    Sitemap

    An XML sitemap is a file that helps search engines discover the important public URLs on a website.

    Also called: XML sitemap

  • SEO

    Sitemap index

    A sitemap index identifies other sitemap files so a site can organise its URL submissions. It is distinct from an individual URL sitemap. Keep the referenced files available and aligned with the intended public pages; including them does not guarantee that their URLs will be indexed.

    Also called: sitemap index file

  • Online selling

    SKU

    An SKU, or stock keeping unit, is an internal identifier a business uses to distinguish items in its stock and order processes.

    Also called: stock keeping unit

  • Design & content

    Slot change event

    The slotchange event reports changes to the nodes assigned to a slot. It does not fire merely because children inside an already slotted node change. Review the actual update the feature needs to observe, so the maintainer does not treat this event as a notification for every possible edit within supplied content.

    Also called: slotchange

  • Domains & email

    SMTP

    SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. It supports transferring email between mail systems, while a supported submission arrangement handles messages from a sending client or application. It does not provide mailbox synchronisation. A Jersey business should use its provider’s current connection, authentication and encryption requirements, then check the actual message outcome separately from a successful sending response.

    Also called: Simple Mail Transfer Protocol

  • Websites & hosting

    Snapshot testing

    Snapshot testing compares current output with a stored expected version. The output can be text, structured data or an image depending on the tool. Review differences before updating the reference; accepting a new snapshot automatically can preserve an unintended change instead of identifying it.

    Also called: snapshot test

  • Domains & email

    SOA record

    An SOA record means Start of Authority record. It contains administrative information for a DNS zone, including a serial number and relevant timing values. It is separate from the address used by a website. Ask the DNS maintainer to review the actual zone configuration rather than copy values from an unrelated example.

    Also called: Start of Authority record

  • Marketing & social

    Social media marketing

    Social media marketing uses social platforms to reach people, share content and support business goals. It may include unpaid posts and paid adverts. Choose channels your customers actually use, and direct enquiries to a reliable contact route rather than depending on one platform account for everything.

  • SEO

    Soft 404

    A soft 404 is a situation where a search engine interprets content as a missing or error page despite a response that does not appropriately report that condition, commonly a 200 response. Review the actual page content and served status together, then choose handling that matches the resource.

  • AI & new tech

    Software library

    A software library provides reusable code an application can use for particular tasks, such as building interface components or processing information. It is one part of the website’s implementation. A Jersey business should understand its purpose, licence and maintenance responsibility, and verify the complete feature that depends on it.

    Also called: code library

  • AI & new tech

    Software licence

    A software licence sets terms for using, modifying or distributing software. Different licences have different requirements, including within open-source projects. Keep relevant licence information with the dependency inventory and seek suitable advice for specific obligations rather than assuming downloadable code can be used without conditions.

    Also called: software license

  • Websites & hosting

    Software package

    A software package groups code and supporting information for distribution or reuse. Packages may be maintained by different publishers and rely on other packages. Review what the project needs, its maintenance responsibility and the relevant updates before adding another component to a Jersey website.

    Also called: package

  • AI & new tech

    Source code

    Source code is the maintained form of program instructions that developers read and change. A website’s deployed output may differ from those source materials. Ask what the project handover includes, where its source is kept and how another suitable maintainer can produce and review a release.

  • Websites & hosting

    Source map

    A source map connects transformed code with its original source locations so development tools can help diagnose problems. Availability depends on the build and delivery settings. Ask which maps support debugging and where they are exposed; having a map does not itself correct an error or establish appropriate information handling.

  • Websites & hosting

    Span

    In tracing, a span represents an operation with timing and contextual information. Related spans form a trace of broader work. Ask the maintainer which operations are instrumented and how collected information is handled, rather than assuming every application step appears in a trace.

    Also called: trace span

  • Google & local

    Special opening hours

    Special opening hours are date-specific changes to a Google Business Profile’s schedule for occasions such as holidays or events.

    Also called: Google special hours

  • Online selling

    Split fulfilment

    Split fulfilment supplies items from one order in separate fulfilment records or shipments. A customer may receive one part before the rest. Keep quantities, tracking references and notifications tied to the actual supplied items; marking a partial shipment should not imply that the whole order has reached the customer.

    Also called: Split fulfillment, Partial fulfilment

  • AI & new tech

    SQL

    SQL is a language used to define and work with data in relational database systems. Queries can retrieve records, while other statements change data or its structure. A business owner should ask what information the application stores and who maintains the database; learning SQL is not a prerequisite for using a website.

    Also called: Structured Query Language

  • Websites & hosting

    SQL aggregate function

    An SQL aggregate function calculates a result from multiple input rows or values, such as a count, sum or average. The chosen inputs and grouping affect its meaning. Review exclusions, duplicate join rows and missing values before interpreting a calculated number as the business’s total customers, orders or sales.

    Also called: Database aggregate function

  • Websites & hosting

    SQL COALESCE

    SQL COALESCE returns the first non-null value from its arguments, or null if all are null. It is often used to choose a fallback display value. Agree what a missing value means before replacing it with zero or a label; unknown information and an actual measured zero are different business states.

    Also called: COALESCE expression

  • Websites & hosting

    SQL COUNT

    SQL COUNT calculates a count from query inputs. In PostgreSQL, COUNT(*) counts input rows, while COUNT(expression) counts rows with a non-null expression value. Those can produce different totals. Confirm which form and input rows a report uses rather than assume every count represents distinct customers or complete orders.

    Also called: COUNT aggregate

  • Websites & hosting

    SQL DISTINCT

    SQL DISTINCT removes duplicate result rows based on the selected output values. It does not automatically mean one row per real-world customer or order. Review which columns are included: changing the selected fields can change which rows appear identical and therefore which duplicates the query removes.

    Also called: SELECT DISTINCT

  • Websites & hosting

    SQL GROUP BY

    SQL GROUP BY combines input rows with matching grouping values so the query can report groups and relevant aggregate results. Grouping choices determine what each result row represents. Agree whether a business report summarises orders, customers or individual items before interpreting a total as though it counted the same thing.

    Also called: GROUP BY clause

  • Websites & hosting

    SQL HAVING clause

    An SQL HAVING clause filters grouped query results after grouping and aggregate calculation. It differs from WHERE filtering the input rows. A report can therefore exclude whole groups after their totals are calculated. Ask the maintainer to explain both filters before comparing a grouped report with an unfiltered source list.

    Also called: HAVING clause

  • Security & legal

    SQL injection

    SQL injection exploits unsafe handling of input in database queries. Developers use measures such as parameterised queries and appropriate access controls to prevent untrusted values becoming query instructions. Validation alone is not a complete substitute for safe database interaction.

    Also called: SQLi

  • Websites & hosting

    SQL inner join

    An SQL inner join combines rows from its inputs when they satisfy the join condition. Unmatched rows do not appear through that join. Check the relationship and resulting row count when reviewing a report; joining an order to several order items can produce several result rows for the same order.

    Also called: INNER JOIN

  • Websites & hosting

    SQL left join

    An SQL left join preserves rows from the left input even when no matching right-side row exists, supplying nulls for the missing side. It is useful when unmatched records matter to a report. Review the later filters as well as the join, because the complete query determines which rows survive.

    Also called: LEFT JOIN, LEFT OUTER JOIN

  • Websites & hosting

    SQL ORDER BY

    SQL ORDER BY specifies how a query’s result rows are sorted. Without an explicit ordering, PostgreSQL does not guarantee a particular returned order. Review the selected fields, directions and handling of ties when building a customer list or paginated report; an apparently stable earlier result is not a defined sort rule.

    Also called: ORDER BY clause

  • Websites & hosting

    SQL WHERE clause

    An SQL WHERE clause filters query input rows according to a condition before grouping and aggregate calculation. It is separate from HAVING, which filters grouped results. Review the date range, status and other included conditions in a business report; the displayed total only describes rows that survived its actual input filters.

    Also called: WHERE clause

  • Design & content

    sRGB

    sRGB is a standard RGB colour space widely used for web images and colour values. It defines a particular interpretation and range for red, green and blue components. It is separate from the general RGB colour model. Agree the export workflow for brand artwork and review the result rather than assume that an RGB label alone identifies sRGB.

    Also called: Standard RGB

  • Domains & email

    SRV record

    An SRV record describes a target host and port for a named service, with priority and weight information. It is used by services that support the relevant discovery process. Follow the actual service provider’s instructions; adding an SRV record does not make every application discover or use that service automatically.

    Also called: DNS service record

  • Websites & hosting

    SSH

    SSH stands for Secure Shell, a protocol used for protected remote login and other network services. Tools such as OpenSSH can use it for remote commands and related operations. A Jersey business should identify the server, authorised account and permitted task, then maintain the access arrangement; an encrypted connection does not establish that every command or destination is appropriate.

    Also called: Secure Shell

  • Websites & hosting

    SSH agent

    An SSH agent is a program holding private keys used for public key authentication and making them available through its supported authentication arrangement. It is a component in an access process rather than the server itself. Have the maintainer manage the actual key and agent lifecycle; an available agent does not approve a destination or task.

    Also called: OpenSSH authentication agent

  • Websites & hosting

    SSH client

    An SSH client is a tool initiating an SSH connection to a remote destination. The OpenSSH ssh program supports remote login and command execution under the actual account arrangement. Identify the client, server and agreed task in a hosting handover; a client being installed does not establish access to the intended server.

    Also called: Secure Shell client

  • Websites & hosting

    SSH host key

    An SSH host key participates in verifying the server’s identity during key exchange. It is distinct from a user’s authentication key. Have the maintainer compare the expected server identity through the approved process and investigate unexplained changes rather than treat an encrypted connection alone as proof that the destination is correct.

    Also called: Server host key

  • Websites & hosting

    SSH key fingerprint

    An SSH key fingerprint is a compact representation used when identifying or comparing a public key. OpenSSH key-management tools can display such fingerprints. Compare against the appropriate trusted reference through the maintained process; a fingerprint appearing in a connection message does not by itself establish who owns the key or whether the destination is approved.

    Also called: SSH fingerprint

  • Websites & hosting

    SSH known hosts

    SSH known hosts records associate previously known host identities with host-key information in supported SSH arrangements. OpenSSH checks its configured known-host databases when connecting. Keep expected identity changes part of the maintainer’s review process; storing a key is separate from independently establishing that the original server identity was the intended one.

    Also called: known_hosts

  • Websites & hosting

    SSH public key authentication

    SSH public key authentication uses a supported key-based method to prove account identity, including a signature associated with the corresponding private key. The server checks whether the key is acceptable and the signature is valid. Keep account authentication distinct from server-identity verification and approval for the particular maintenance action.

    Also called: SSH key authentication

  • Websites & hosting

    SSH server

    An SSH server accepts supported incoming SSH connections and handles the configured authentication and remote operations. OpenSSH provides this service through sshd. Record the actual hosting environment and permitted account scope; a listening service is separate from approval for every maintenance command or from evidence that the website’s customer journey works.

    Also called: sshd

  • Security & legal

    SSL certificate

    An SSL certificate is the common name for a digital certificate that helps a browser confirm it has reached the right website and establish an encrypted HTTPS connection.

    Also called: TLS certificate, HTTPS certificate, security certificate

  • Websites & hosting

    Stack trace

    A stack trace shows a sequence of function calls associated with a program’s execution or error. Developers use it to investigate where a problem occurred. It may reveal internal detail, so a business website should handle diagnostics appropriately rather than displaying the full trace to every visitor.

    Also called: call stack trace

  • Websites & hosting

    Staging site

    A staging site is a separate environment used to review and test website changes before they reach the live site.

    Also called: staging environment

  • Websites & hosting

    Static analysis

    Static analysis examines code without running the application to identify properties or potential issues. Linting and static type checking are examples with different purposes. Record the configured checks and their scope, and use appropriate running tests for behaviour that those checks cannot establish.

  • Websites & hosting

    Static website

    A static website delivers prepared files rather than generating every page from a database on each request. It can still include interactive elements and connect to external services. Static does not mean a business can never update it; the publishing workflow determines how changes reach customers.

    Also called: static site

  • Design & content

    Steps easing

    The CSS steps function divides input time into a specified number of equal intervals for stepped progress. It can support an effect intended to show discrete appearances. Review what those stages communicate and how they fit the customer task, rather than assume every timing choice should create a continuous smooth movement.

    Also called: steps()

    A stock level is a recorded quantity of an item in a particular inventory context. Different systems distinguish available, committed, incoming or physically held stock. Understand which number the website uses before promising availability, and check that the relevant location and product variant are included.

  • Design & content

    Stock photos vs your own

    Stock photos are licensed images supplied for reuse; your own photos show your actual business, people or work. Check permissions for either kind. Relevant genuine photography can help Jersey customers recognise you, while a generic image should not imply a staff member, location or customer result that is not real.

    Also called: stock photography, business photos

    Stop immediate propagation

    Event.stopImmediatePropagation() prevents remaining listeners for the current event from being called, including other listeners on the current element. It has a different scope from stopping further propagation alone. Have the maintainer explain the intended change and verify affected controls, so suppressing a response does not leave the wider customer task incomplete.

    Also called: Event.stopImmediatePropagation()

  • Design & content

    Stop propagation

    Event.stopPropagation() prevents further propagation of the current event through capture and bubbling. It does not cancel the default action or stop other handlers on the current element. Review the precise response the feature needs to change, and check surrounding interactions after an adjustment so the customer can still complete the intended task.

    Also called: Event.stopPropagation()

    Storage eviction

    Storage eviction is a browser’s removal of stored website data according to its storage-management rules, such as under storage pressure. Criteria depend on the browser and storage arrangement. A useful offline application should explain local-data limits and recover sensibly if previously stored information is no longer available.

  • Websites & hosting

    Storage quota

    A storage quota limits the amount of data a website can keep through relevant browser storage mechanisms. Limits and failure behaviour vary by browser and storage type. An application should handle insufficient space clearly and preserve an appropriate server or export process where important work needs dependable recovery.

    Also called: browser storage limit

    Storage volume

    A storage volume is an organisational unit on which a filesystem can reside. Windows documentation describes volumes that can involve one or more underlying partitions. Identify the actual maintained storage arrangement and recovery scope rather than infer the complete physical storage or backup process from a drive letter or visible location alone.

    Also called: Filesystem volume

    Strict equality

    JavaScript strict equality compares values and treats different types as unequal. It returns a Boolean result. Keep the intended comparison rule explicit and review representative values, so a technical equality result is connected to the correct business reference or state instead of being treated as proof of identity or permission.

    String

    A string represents text in programming, with language-specific rules for storing and processing it. In JavaScript, operations can find, extract or transform text, while string length counts UTF-16 code units. For a Jersey website, define the field’s intended meaning and receiving representation before treating digit-shaped text as a quantity or a text transformation as an approved record.

    Also called: text string

  • AI & new tech

    String at

    String.at() returns the UTF-16 code unit at its supported integer position as a string, with negative positions counting from the end. A code unit need not represent a whole visible character. Review the intended extraction and supported content, particularly if the feature builds labels or references from selected text positions.

    Also called: String.at()

  • AI & new tech

    String character code at

    String.charCodeAt() returns the numeric UTF-16 code unit at its supported index. It does not always represent a complete Unicode code point or visible character. Ask how the feature uses the result and review representative supported text, so internal character handling preserves the information the customer and receiving task actually need.

    Also called: String.charCodeAt()

  • AI & new tech

    String code point at

    String.codePointAt() returns a Unicode code point value at a supported location, while its index still uses UTF-16 code units. Have the maintainer explain the intended character handling and inspect representative text. Keep code points, internal positions and user-perceived characters distinct when reviewing extraction or counting requirements.

    Also called: String.codePointAt()

  • AI & new tech

    String conversion

    Calling JavaScript String as a function returns a primitive string representation, while using it as a constructor creates a String object. Keep the actual operation and output type clear. Review the resulting information against the field’s business purpose, so a readable conversion is not assumed to preserve every required receiving detail.

    Also called: String() conversion

  • AI & new tech

    String ends with

    String.endsWith() checks whether text ends with the specified sequence, returning a boolean. Keep the suffix rule and its purpose explicit. Review representative matched and unmatched values, and have the maintainer assess wider receiving checks before treating a recognised ending as evidence of trusted content or an accepted business record.

    Also called: String.endsWith()

  • AI & new tech

    String includes

    String.includes() performs a case-sensitive search for specified text and returns a boolean. It identifies presence rather than returning the matching passage. Review the intended search rule and relevant absent result, so a found phrase is not treated as proof that a whole field is acceptable or a business reference is recognised.

    Also called: String.includes()

  • AI & new tech

    String index of

    String.indexOf() searches for a specified substring and returns the first matching index under its supported starting-position rule. It provides a text location rather than a business identifier. Review what the application does with that position and how it handles a missing match before relying on extracted information in the customer task.

    Also called: String.indexOf()

  • AI & new tech

    String length

    JavaScript string length counts UTF-16 code units. That measurement can differ from the characters a person perceives. Explain which limit a field or receiving service actually uses and review representative supported text, so a visible character-count instruction stays consistent with the application’s real acceptance rule.

    Also called: String.length

  • AI & new tech

    String lower case

    String.toLowerCase() returns text converted to lower case. Agree whether the feature uses the result for display, comparison or a receiving reference. Review representative supported characters and the intended business rule, so a case transformation is not assumed to establish identity or preserve every field’s approved presentation automatically.

    Also called: String.toLowerCase()

  • AI & new tech

    String pad end

    String.padEnd() adds a supplied padding string at the end to reach the requested length, repeating or truncating the padding as needed. Keep the purpose explicit and compare representative output with the receiving requirement. A longer text representation does not establish more complete information or an approved identifier.

    Also called: String.padEnd()

  • AI & new tech

    String pad start

    String.padStart() adds a supplied padding string at the beginning to reach the requested length, repeating or truncating the padding as needed. Review why the feature uses that presentation and inspect the resulting reference. Added characters should have an agreed meaning instead of silently changing how another system identifies a business item.

    Also called: String.padStart()

  • AI & new tech

    String repeat

    String.repeat() returns new text made from the requested number of joined copies of a string. It is a text construction operation. Review the expected result and relevant input limits with the maintainer, so repeated content serves a defined feature purpose and does not acquire the meaning of additional business records or completed actions.

    Also called: String.repeat()

  • AI & new tech

    String replace

    String.replace() returns new text with matches replaced under its supplied rule. A string search pattern replaces only the first occurrence, while regular-expression handling can differ. Review the actual pattern and expected scope with representative repeated text, so the feature’s output matches the business instruction about which content should change.

    Also called: String.replace()

  • AI & new tech

    String replace all

    String.replaceAll() returns new text with all matches of its supplied pattern replaced, leaving the original string unchanged. The pattern and replacement still need appropriate handling. Review repeated and absent matches with the intended output, so the business verifies which wording changes and whether the resulting information remains suitable for the customer task.

    Also called: String.replaceAll()

  • AI & new tech

    String slice

    String.slice() extracts a section as new text without modifying the original string. The selected bounds determine the output. Review the intended portion and representative supported characters, so a successful extraction preserves the information the feature needs rather than silently producing an incomplete label or unsuitable receiving reference.

    Also called: String.slice()

  • AI & new tech

    String split

    String.split() divides text using a supplied pattern and returns the resulting substrings in an array. Define what each part represents and inspect the actual output. Splitting text does not establish valid fields or complete business records, so missing or unexpected portions need appropriate receiving rules and useful feedback.

    Also called: String.split()

  • AI & new tech

    String starts with

    String.startsWith() checks whether text begins with the specified sequence, returning a boolean. Define what that beginning means for the feature and inspect representative matches. A prefix check is a limited text operation, so any decision about the complete value or receiving business task needs its appropriate rules too.

    Also called: String.startsWith()

  • AI & new tech

    String substring

    String.substring() returns text from its start index up to the excluded end index, or to the end when that argument is omitted. Keep the intended portion clear and inspect representative results. A returned string is insufficient evidence that the extracted content remains complete, readable or correct for the receiving business task.

    Also called: String.substring()

  • AI & new tech

    String trim

    String.trim() returns new text with whitespace removed from both ends, leaving the original string unchanged. It does not remove spaces throughout the content. Review the reason for trimming and inspect representative pasted or empty values, so the resulting information preserves the intended field meaning before the application uses it.

    Also called: String.trim()

  • AI & new tech

    String trim end

    String.trimEnd() returns new text with ending whitespace removed. Keep that limited purpose clear in the feature. Review representative input and resulting values, particularly when text reaches another service, so trimming is not treated as complete validation or expanded into an undocumented alteration of the customer’s intended information.

    Also called: String.trimEnd()

  • AI & new tech

    String trim start

    String.trimStart() returns new text with beginning whitespace removed. The rest of the supported content needs its own handling rules. Ask which field uses the operation and why, then compare representative input and output so a formatting change is connected to the business information the receiver expects.

    Also called: String.trimStart()

  • AI & new tech

    String upper case

    String.toUpperCase() returns text converted to upper case. The useful effect depends on the field and task. Keep the intended display or comparison rule explicit, then inspect representative names and references so the business can verify that the transformed output still has the meaning its receiving workflow requires.

    Also called: String.toUpperCase()

    Stripe and PayPal

    Stripe and PayPal are payment service providers that can help businesses accept online payments. They are separate products with different eligibility, fees and features. Check current support for your business location and trading needs; an integration working on a demo does not establish account approval or payout arrangements.

    Structured clone

    The browser structuredClone() method creates a deep clone of a supported structured-cloneable value. It does not promise to copy every possible JavaScript value. Its optional transfer handling can move supported resources and detach them from the original. Review the data types and later use before accepting a copy or transfer workflow.

    Also called: structuredClone()

    Style guide

    A style guide records agreed choices for writing or presentation so people can apply them consistently. Its scope might include spelling, tone, typography and image use. Keep the business’s guide practical and current, with examples that help staff prepare and edit website content.

  • Domains & email

    Subdomain

    A subdomain is a name beneath another domain, such as bookings.example.je. It can lead to a separate service or section. Keep track of its DNS, security certificate and supplier, because launching the main website does not automatically configure every booking, shop or customer portal subdomain.

  • Design & content

    Submit no validate

    The HTML formnovalidate attribute on supported submit controls overrides browser validation for that submission. Explain why the feature needs the route and which receiving rules still apply. Review the actual button and resulting workflow, so a deliberate alternate submission path does not inherit an unsupported claim of valid or complete information.

    Also called: formnovalidate

    Subnet

    A subnet is a subdivision of an IP network, defined through its addressing arrangement. It helps administrators organise connectivity and routing. A separate subnet does not automatically establish complete access control or application security; review the actual routes and enforced rules with the person maintaining the network.

    Also called: subnetwork

  • Websites & hosting

    Subnet mask

    A subnet mask identifies the network portion of an IPv4 address within the configured addressing arrangement. It helps devices determine relevant network boundaries. It is a configuration value, not a password or an encryption control, so changes should be reviewed by the network administrator around the actual connectivity requirements.

    Subresource Integrity

    Subresource Integrity, or SRI, lets a supporting browser compare a fetched resource with an expected cryptographic hash before using it. It helps detect unexpected changes to the covered resource. It does not establish that the approved code is safe, and planned file changes require the relevant integrity information to remain correct.

    Also called: SRI

    SubtleCrypto

    SubtleCrypto exposes low-level cryptographic operations through the browser’s Web Crypto API. Its methods need an appropriate design and careful implementation. Ask a qualified maintainer to explain the feature’s intended protection and key management, and review the complete customer task before relying on an isolated method call as proof of website security.

    SVG

    SVG stands for Scalable Vector Graphics, a text-based format for describing graphics such as shapes, paths and text. Vector artwork can scale cleanly for different displays. A Jersey business should review the actual file and embedding method; an SVG may also contain raster images, and its name alone does not establish suitable or safe artwork.

    Also called: Scalable Vector Graphics

    Synchronous

    Synchronous execution follows a sequence in which an operation completes before the calling flow proceeds as defined by that execution model. It has a different relationship to waiting than asynchronous work. Ask how the actual application handles delays and failure rather than assuming the term establishes customer-visible speed.

    Also called: sync execution

    Syntax validation

    Syntax validation checks whether information has the expected type or format. That is one part of deciding whether a value is acceptable. Agree the field’s supported representation and useful feedback, then review its business meaning and receiving rules before expanding a format result into an approved quantity, identity or customer operation.
