  • Websites & hosting

    Backend

Backend development builds the supporting application work behind a website, such as processing requests, accessing records and enforcing permissions.

    Also called: back end, back-end

  • Websites & hosting

    Background job

A background job performs work outside an immediate interactive request, such as preparing an export or sending a notification. Starting the job and completing it can be separate events. A Jersey business should understand the expected outcome, progress information, failure handling and the person responsible for investigating work that does not finish.

    Also called: background task

  • Online selling

    Backorder

A backorder is an order accepted for an item that is currently unavailable from the relevant stock and is expected to be supplied later. The website must communicate the actual arrangement. Allowing sales beyond recorded stock is a setting; it does not establish that replacement stock will arrive.

    Also called: back order

  • Websites & hosting

    Backups

Website backups are recovery copies of the files, databases and other information needed to rebuild a site after a problem.

    Also called: backups, backup

  • Websites & hosting

    Bandwidth

Bandwidth describes the data-transfer capacity of a communication link, commonly expressed in bits per second.

  • AI & new tech

    Base64

Base64 represents binary data using a text alphabet for supported storage or transfer arrangements. It is reversible encoding and does not provide confidentiality. A Jersey business should identify the required variant and decoding process, handle encoded secrets appropriately and inspect the actual decoded result rather than assume unreadable-looking text is encrypted or compressed.

  • AI & new tech

    Base64url

Base64url uses the URL and filename safe alphabet defined by RFC 4648, differing from ordinary Base64 in two alphabet characters. Follow the surrounding specification’s padding requirements. It remains reversible encoding rather than confidentiality protection; the fact that an encoded value can fit in a URL does not make its underlying information safe to expose.

    Also called: URL-safe Base64

  • Domains & email

    Bcc

Bcc, or blind carbon copy, provides recipient handling intended to avoid revealing those addresses to other recipients through the usual visible list. Actual message and reply handling matters. It is not a guarantee against every disclosure, so check the recipient fields and suitability of the sending arrangement.

    Also called: blind carbon copy

  • Design & content

    BCP 47

BCP 47 is the IETF best-practice arrangement covering language tags and their matching. RFC 5646 describes tag structure and semantics. It identifies content language rather than every regional business requirement. Have the maintainer use appropriate supported identifiers and review the actual content instead of assume a tag establishes a complete localised experience.

Also called: Best Current Practice 47

  • Security & legal

    Bearer token

A bearer token grants its holder access under the token’s permissions and validity rules without requiring proof of a separate cryptographic key. Possession therefore matters: protect it from disclosure in storage and transport. Review the actual token scope, expiry and supported revocation rather than treating it as an ordinary public identifier.

  • AI & new tech

    BigInt

BigInt supports JavaScript integer values beyond the ordinary Number type’s safe range. It has its own representation and supported operations. Have the maintainer assess the feature’s actual values, conversions and receiving format, rather than assume that choosing a larger integer type automatically preserves every integration or business identifier correctly.

  • Design & content

    Blob

A browser Blob is a file-like object containing immutable raw data. Scripts can read that data as text or bytes and use supported APIs to create previews or exports. For a Jersey business, ask which information the object contains, how the feature interprets it and what usable result the customer receives; its presence does not establish upload or storage.

Also called: binary large object in a browser

  • Design & content

    Blob array buffer

Blob.arrayBuffer() returns a promise for the object’s contents as binary data in an ArrayBuffer. It is a reading operation for the feature’s data. Ask how the next stage interprets those bytes and review the usable output; obtaining a buffer does not itself save, transmit or validate the file.

    Also called: Blob.arrayBuffer()

  • Design & content

    Blob size

Blob.size reports the amount of data in a Blob or File in bytes. It can help a feature display size information or perform a preliminary check. Keep the supported limit and units understandable to customers, and review receiving enforcement separately; reading a browser property does not establish that the server accepted the resource.

    Also called: Blob.size

  • Design & content

    Blob slice

Blob.slice() creates a new Blob containing a selected byte range, leaving the original object unchanged. The end position is excluded from that range. Review why the feature needs a subset and what it represents, especially where the customer expects a complete file or the receiving workflow needs a defined portion of the data.

    Also called: Blob.slice()

  • Design & content

    Blob stream

Blob.stream() provides a ReadableStream for reading the object’s data as chunks of raw bytes. The feature still needs a defined consumer and useful result. Ask the maintainer to explain the processing route and review the intended output, rather than treat the presence of a stream as evidence that a file has arrived at another service.

    Also called: Blob.stream()

  • Design & content

    Blob text

Blob.text() returns a promise for the object’s contents interpreted as UTF-8 text. Check whether that representation matches the input the feature expects. Inspect representative characters and usable output, so a successful text operation is connected to the customer task rather than assumed to prove that every file can be read meaningfully this way.

    Also called: Blob.text()

  • Design & content

    Blob type

Blob.type is a media-type string and can be empty when the type is unknown. For selected files, the browser’s reported type is insufficient as a sole validation scheme. Review the actual contents and receiving checks with the maintainer, so a familiar label is not treated as proof that an attachment is permitted or safe.

    Also called: Blob.type

  • AI & new tech

    Boolean

A Boolean is a logical value that is either true or false. Software uses such values to represent conditions or states, while JavaScript can also interpret other values in Boolean contexts. For a Jersey website, define exactly what each flag means and which event sets it; a true value does not establish an outcome beyond the condition actually checked.

    Also called: Boolean value

  • Analytics

    Bounce rate and engagement rate

In GA4, engagement rate measures the share of sessions counted as engaged, while bounce rate is the share that are not. These definitions differ from older analytics reports. A higher or lower figure needs context: a visitor may find a telephone number quickly and leave after a useful visit.

Also called: bounce rate, engagement rate

  • Websites & hosting

    Branch

A branch represents a line of development in version control, letting work be prepared separately before being combined. It can help keep unfinished website changes away from a release. The team still needs a review process and a clear agreement about which branch is actually deployed.

    Also called: Git branch

  • Marketing & social

    Brand identity

Brand identity is the set of choices a business uses to present its character and offer consistently, including its name, visual design and language.

    Also called: brand, branding

  • Design & content

    Breakpoint

A responsive-design breakpoint is a condition at which layout or styling changes, commonly through a media query. It should support the content’s available space. A breakpoint is not proof that a website works on every device; test the layout around the change as well as at convenient preset sizes.

  • Websites & hosting

    Brotli

Brotli is a lossless compression format that can be used in supported web-response delivery. Its actual use depends on the client and serving arrangement. A Jersey business should inspect representative responses and their sizes, then verify page behaviour; a Brotli option or format name does not prove a fixed saving or a complete website-performance result.

  • Design & content

    Browser print dialog

A browser print dialog is the interface through which a user chooses a print or supported save arrangement for a document. The Window.print method opens it for the current document. Opening the dialog is separate from completing the operation; review the actual saved or printed result when approving a website’s printable feature.

    Also called: Window.print

  • Security & legal

    Brute-force attack

A brute-force attack repeatedly tries possible values, such as passwords, to find one that works. Appropriate sign-in controls can limit exposure, but no single measure covers every account risk. Review the service’s supported protection, stronger authentication and recovery process.

  • Websites & hosting

    Build artifact

A build artifact is an output retained from a build or workflow, such as prepared website files or a test report. Its meaning depends on the process. Identify the exact output associated with the reviewed version and deployment so support staff can connect a release with useful evidence.

    Also called: build artefact

  • Websites & hosting

    Build pipeline

A build pipeline coordinates stages that prepare and check software, such as installing dependencies, generating output and running defined tests. A workflow may also include deployment. Review triggers, required checks and authorisation in the actual arrangement; an automated sequence does not guarantee that every important task was tested.

    Also called: build workflow

  • Websites & hosting

    Build tool

A build tool prepares project source into output used by a website or application. It can coordinate transformations, bundling and other configured tasks. A Jersey business should document the supported environment and command, identify the produced files and verify the relevant output and customer behaviour before treating a successful build as a complete release.

  • Websites & hosting

    Bundler

A bundler combines modules and their dependencies into files prepared for an application’s delivery. Its output depends on the configuration and project. Review which code is actually shipped and how it affects the customer journey rather than assuming bundling always makes every page faster.

    Also called: module bundler

    Business additional category

An additional Business Profile category describes another relevant aspect of the same business using Google’s supplied options. It is separate from adding every individual service as a category. Keep each choice accurate and useful, then review the actual saved representation after the business changes its offerings.

    Also called: GBP additional category

  • Domains & email

    Business email

Business email is an email service used for work, often with an address at the business's own domain, such as hello@example.je.

Also called: professional email address, custom domain email

  • Google & local

    Business main hours

Business Profile main hours describe the normal weekly schedule for the represented business. Date exceptions and supported service-specific hours have separate settings. Confirm the operating timetable with the owner and review the public display alongside the website, so customers can identify current availability without reconciling contradictory schedules.

    Also called: GBP regular hours

  • Google & local

    Business More hours

More hours is a Business Profile setting for supported services with their own availability, such as delivery or pickup. Google says regular hours must first be set for these hours to display. Agree the real service timetable and inspect the resulting customer information rather than assume the business’s main hours describe every offering.

    Also called: GBP More hours

  • Google & local

    Business primary category

A Business Profile’s primary category identifies the main kind of business it represents, using a suitable option from Google’s list. Choose the category against real core operations and retain the reason for the choice. Review the customer’s expectation and the linked website information rather than use the field as an unexplained keyword.

    Also called: GBP primary category

  • Google & local

    Business Profile attributes

Business Profile attributes describe supported details about a business, such as facilities or available features. Some can be edited by the business and others depend on customer input; availability varies. Review the actual offered fields and facts before making a claim, especially where a customer will rely on the information when planning a visit.

    Also called: GBP attributes

  • Google & local

    Business Profile call clicks

The Calls metric in Business Profile performance counts clicks on the profile’s call button. It is separate from proof that a conversation connected, an enquiry was suitable or a sale completed. Keep the profile and reporting period identifiable, then review the business’s actual receiving and outcome records when assessing the value of those interactions.

    Also called: GBP Calls metric

  • Google & local

    Business Profile description

A Business Profile description explains the business in its supported description field. An available AI suggestion still needs accuracy review, and availability varies by region and language. Have the owner approve factual wording about the actual operation, then inspect the saved public information rather than assume generated copy establishes verified business details.

    Also called: GBP description

  • Google & local

    Business Profile directions requests

The Directions metric in Business Profile performance describes requests for directions to the business, with counting adjustments for issues such as repeated taps and cancellations. It is separate from confirmed visits. Check the relevant reporting period and public arrival information, then use actual business evidence when assessing whether customers attended or completed a task.

    Also called: GBP Directions metric

  • Google & local

    Business Profile edit status

Business Profile edit status identifies whether a saved information change is accepted, pending or not approved. A pending edit remains under review, while a saved change is separate from its final public display. Record the actual status and inspect the customer-facing information before considering an important hours, address or service update complete.

    Also called: GBP pending edit

  • Google & local

    Business Profile Google update

A Google update is a change to Business Profile information informed by sources such as user reports or licensed content. The business can review relevant updates, but not every update is manageable through the profile. Assign responsibility for checking accuracy and compare important details with real operations and the business website.

    Also called: GBP Google updates

  • Google & local

    Business Profile manager

A Business Profile manager can help maintain profile information but cannot add or remove users or remove the profile. Managers use their own authorised Google Accounts. Agree the work and appropriate role, then check actual access during supplier or staff changes rather than assume being able to edit hours establishes ownership control.

    Also called: GBP manager

  • Google & local

    Business Profile ownership request

An ownership request is Google’s supported route for seeking control of an existing verified Business Profile owned by someone else. The process depends on the business type, with service-area cases directed to support. Keep the request, decision and actual access distinct; submitting a request does not itself establish that the handover has completed.

    Also called: GBP access request

  • Google & local

    Business Profile performance

Business Profile performance reports available interactions and discovery information for a verified profile over a selected period. Metrics can include organic and advertising activity and are not all available for every business. Keep the metric definition, scope and dates clear before using the report to judge a local marketing change or business result.

    Also called: GBP performance

  • Google & local

    Business Profile primary owner

The primary owner is the single primary-ownership role on a Google Business Profile and is the person who can transfer primary ownership. It is distinct from other owners and managers. Review the actual role during a handover, then verify the completed access arrangement and responsibility for maintaining important public business information.

    Also called: GBP primary owner

  • Google & local

    Business Profile services

The Business Profile services editor lets businesses in supported categories describe their offerings, including suggested or custom services and relevant details. It is distinct from choosing the main business category. Keep service information accurate and policy-compliant, and review the actual customer view with the corresponding website page after an offering changes.

    Also called: GBP services editor

  • Google & local

    Business Profile website clicks

The Website clicks metric in Business Profile performance counts clicks on the profile’s website link. It describes that interaction rather than a completed enquiry or purchase. Keep the selected dates and profile scope with the report, and inspect the linked page and actual business outcomes separately before claiming those clicks produced results.

Also called: GBP Website clicks metric

  • Google & local

    Business service area

A Business Profile service area describes the places a service-area or hybrid business actually serves. Google supports named areas such as cities and postal codes rather than a radius. Select accurate supported places and explain important service limits on the website; the field describes coverage rather than guaranteeing a search position throughout it.

    Also called: GBP service area

  • Google & local

    Business temporarily closed

Temporarily closed is a Business Profile status describing a temporary operational closure, distinct from a permanent closure or a dated hours exception. Review Google’s current guidance for the actual duration and operating situation before choosing it. Keep the website and staff information consistent, and inspect the customer-visible status after saving.

    Also called: GBP temporary closure

  • Google & local

    business.site

business.site was the address Google gave to the free, basic websites it once let businesses make from a Google Business Profile.

Also called: Google business site, Business Profile website

  • AI & new tech

    Byte order mark

A byte order mark is an initial Unicode signature associated with some text streams. Its role and acceptability depend on the encoding and surrounding protocol; UTF-8 uses it as a signature rather than to select byte order. Check the receiving specification before adding or removing it as a general solution to an import problem.

    Also called: BOM

  • Websites & hosting

    bzip2

bzip2 is a lossless file compression tool and associated compressed-data format using block-sorting compression and Huffman coding. It is distinct from packaging a collection of files into an archive. Identify the actual compressed input and supported receiving tool, then compare the recovered content with the intended source during an exchange.

    Also called: bz2 compression
