How much does a website cost in Jersey?

A straight answer on what a business website costs in Jersey: upfront, ongoing, and the hidden extras most quotes leave out.

By Josh, Web Designer, Developer & SEO Updated 20 October 2026 6 min read How we check our facts

It is the first question almost every Jersey business owner asks, and the honest answer is: it depends on who builds it and how. Prices on the island range from a few hundred pounds for a template someone sets up in an afternoon to five figures for a bespoke agency build. Below is what each option really costs, and where the ongoing money goes.

Want your own figure? Our website cost calculator adds up the build, hosting and a .je domain over one, three or five years.

The three ways to get a website in Jersey

Do it yourself (Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy). The monthly subscription looks cheap, but you supply the time, the words, the photos and the design judgement. Check the current price of a plan that lets you use your own domain, and allow a weekend or two to get the site right.

Hire a freelancer or agency. Prices vary widely with the size of the job and who you hire, so get written quotes from two or three. You get a proper result, but it is a real upfront cost, and changes after launch can be charged separately.

A managed build with flat hosting. This is the model we use at Jersey Web: we design and build the site at a price that starts from £100 and depends on the job, and you cover hosting from £20 a month that keeps it online, secure and supported. Updates and maintenance are handled for you.

The costs people forget to budget for

  • Hosting: every site needs it, whoever builds it. Check whether the price rises after the first year.
  • A domain name: a .je is £49 a year direct from the registry, and registrars set their own prices for .je and .co.uk alike, so ask for the renewal price.
  • Copywriting: good words sell; see website copywriting in Jersey.
  • SEO: being found on Google is a job in itself; see SEO in Jersey.
  • Maintenance & security: updates, backups and fixes, which most upfront quotes exclude.

So what should a small Jersey business actually budget?

If you go the agency route, plan for a few thousand pounds upfront plus ongoing hosting and maintenance. If you are launching a first business website on a tight budget, a smaller build from £100, with hosting from £20 a month, keeps the upfront cost down and the ongoing cost predictable. Either way, be wary of any quote that does not mention hosting, updates or who owns the site at the end.

Whatever you choose, the website that pays for itself is the one that is found, trusted and easy to act on. That is worth more than shaving a few pounds off the setup.
